This position works under the supervision of the Business Manager. This position also works with the Surgical Services team to maintain sound inventory control of supplies and equipment as well as to identify supply/equipment/inventory improvement opportunities.

Required Education:

High school diploma or GED or equivalent

Bachelor's degree in a related field of study.

Description

  1. Develops and maintains supply/inventory control measures. Responsible for the organization and availability of supply items, equipment and specialty orders. Maintains inventory levels that are reasonable to support the surgical volume. Reviews, counts, and adjusts inventory at least monthly. Responsible for year-end inventory. Establishes processes and controls to eliminate obsolete items (includes returning obsolete items for credit), controlproliferation of similar items, and secure new items. Assists the Inventory Assist in maintaining appropriate supply item levels and assists in delivery and pick-up ofnecessary supply items. Works closely with Cost Accounting in establishing new procedure codes and entering codes into inventory within two days of receipt.

Reviews charge sheets with Service Leaders at least two times per year and updates as necessary.

Works with the Purchasing Dept to establish and add new items to the Materials Management dictionary in Meditech.

  1. Maintains effective communication with all customer populations; i.e. Director, Business Manager, Patient Care Managers, Implant Techs, SPD Supervisor, physicians/surgeons, dentists, nursing staff, vendors, AC departments, etc. Collaborates and communicates effectively and keeps other well-informed of pertinent information; i.e. equipment and implant recalls, procedure code updates, status of implant inventories, charge sheet revisions, etc. Works effectively with physicians, dentists, company vendors, and other AC departments. Identifies departmental needs or areas of needed improvement and works cooperatively to resolve problems in a timely manner. Promotes sound and positive guest relations in activities. Notifies the appropriate people and coordinates the handling of supply/equipment defects/malfunctions/deficiencies. Reports activities/projects/accomplishments in writing to the Business Manager at least two times per month.

  2. Performs environmental rounds to assess maintenance, equipment, and supply needs and provides timely follow-up action. Provides project, clerical, administrative assistance to the Business Manager as requested, meeting established deadlines. Provides other administrative support to the Division of Nursing as requested. Maintains and updates the capital asset database on a monthly basis. Continually updates and adds automated inventory items, charging, etc. This includes pricing changes, obtaining new item numbers, setting/adjusting min/max levels, initiating inventories, etc. Performs physical counts on all inventory items at least once per month, compares the physical count to the quantity in Meditech, and makes adjustments as needed. Details reasons for adjustments. Submits the monthly inventory control report to the Business Manager by the 10th of the month for the previous month.

  3. Ensures consignment and implant inventories are maintained. Collaborates with the Implant Tech in assessing the need for consignment/implant inventory. Works with the Implant Tech in setting up (catalog numbers, min/max levels, quantity on hand, pricing) consignment/implant items into inventory. Collaborates with the Implant Tech in initiating actions to reduce obsolete or low-volume inventory, while ensuring adequate supply of inventory items. Assists in performance of scheduled cycle counts of automated consignment/implant inventory items; assists in reconciliation of discrepancies.

  4. Communicates with Surgical Services personnel, peers and other AC team members in a positive and professional manner. Utilizes available communication tools (staff meetings, bulletin boards, email, pager) to remain informed as well as communicating effectively and timely with others. Displays teamwork by offering assistance to others and utilizing time efficiently. Actively participates in unit staff meetings and inservices appropriate to assigned role. Attends Committee Meetingsas delegated by Business Manager or Surgical Services Director. Seeks new challenges and is self-directed in identifying resources/learning activities to enhance competence. Consistently demonstrates that new knowledge and skills gained from education are incorporated into actual practices. Shares knowledge and expertise with nursing staff and other members of the health care team. Keeps abreast of current information and trends related to inventory management.
