Job Description
Brown Advisory is seeking a highly motivated, intelligent, and experienced Investment Research Analyst to work for a Family Office Chief Investment Officer in a variety of activities (detailed below), as an integral team member that works with a small number of extremely large families in terms of asset size and sophistication. This position requires an intrinsically motivated individual with an interest in investments, prior experience analyzing public equity and private investments funds and direct deals, and a desire to underwrite / diligence opportunities that are team-sourced as well as client-sourced. Strong analytical skills required, a true thirst for learning, and the capability to solve complex problems, often under deadlines.
The duties of this position include but are not limited to:
Portfolio Management: participate in portfolio management activities for large, sophisticated family office clients; each subject to the customized investment needs of the client. Services include, but are not limited to, management of liquidity needs, analysis of equity, fixed income, and opportunistic alternative investments as appropriate.
Investment Due Diligence: conduct in-depth due diligence on a wide variety of investment opportunities that covers individual stocks, third-party managers, and direct private deals. This position will focus on the top of the investment funnel as we sort which opportunities meet the criteria for further diligence.
Idea Generation: Set up and attend investment manager meetings and conferences to collect information on current and prospective investments. Build network of other family offices to gather differentiated deal flow.
Database Management: Update and maintain a database of quantitative and qualitative information about current and prospective investments (performance history, portfolio exposure, liquidity terms, etc.). Collect, review and file information on prospective investments (past performance, marketing materials, fund documents, due diligence items)
Client Portfolio Analysis: perform detailed analyses of both existing and prospective client investment portfolios and create client-specific materials and reports.
Investment Requests: Ad hoc tasks as requested by the portfolio manager (market research, manager comparisons, client spending analysis, client performance reports, etc.)
Reporting: Prepare reports on specific investment opportunities in different strategies or asset classes
Job Requirements
Bachelor's degree required
CFA Charter holder or equivalent preferred
Minimum of 5 years investment management experience
Excellent quantitative reasoning abilities and experience with statistical methods
Expert-level Excel and PowerPoint skills
General knowledge of financial markets with a high degree of interest in private investments
Strong academic background preferably with emphasis on quantitative and/or financial coursework
Self-starter with an entrepreneurial spirit (a must!)
Ability and desire to learn about a wide range of investment strategies
High integrity and extremely strong work ethic
Ability to work in our Washington D.C. office five days a week

DC Salary: $120-180k. Commensurate with experience and location. This range does not include bonus or long term incentive eligibility (if applicable).
