Job Description

Performs routine testing in the medical laboratory to provide data for use in diagnosis and treatment of disease.

Salary begins at $20.05 + per hour depending on experience.

Essential Functions of the Job: [Other duties may be assigned.]

  • Interprets provider's orders and secures a requisition before performing tests.

  • Obtains the correct amount and type of specimen.

  • Draws blood from patient's finger, or hand/arm vein, observing principles of asepsis to obtain blood samples.

  • Conducts quantitative and qualitative chemical analyses of body fluids such as blood, urine, and spinal fluid, under supervision of medical technologist.

  • Conducts blood tests for routine health screening.

  • Completes appropriate collection, routing, handling, and processing of various medical specimens.

  • Performs tests in an accurate and timely manner.

  • Informs providers of lab results.

  • Documents all requests and results of lab work accurately.

  • Works with the EMR to record and report all patient results

  • Recognizes abnormalities and notifies providers immediately.

  • Performs daily quality control and cleaning procedures per guidelines.

  • Orders and stocks supplies as needed.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Education Requirements / Required Credentials, Certification, Licensure:

Laboratory Tech I: Certificate from college or technical school; or three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Current CPR certification required.
