About the Role:

Neurocrine Biosciences, Inc. (NASDAQ: NBIX) is offering the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the world of biotechnology. Our intern program offers exposure to gene therapy product development with focus areas in drug product formulation and manufacturing process design. The Pharmaceutical Development team has a proven track record of designing products, formulations and processes that are portable to the commercial market in an accelerated fashion.

Your Contributions (include, but are not limited to):

  • Supporting a range of Pharmaceutical Development (PD) activities with a primary focus on AAV formulation development, including execution of analytical assays to assess vector stability and compatibility with excipients.
  • Designing, conducting, and documenting experiments to evaluate AAV formulation robustness, product stability, and process performance under various stress conditions.
  • Executing and analyzing DP analytical assays relevant to AAV programs, including dPCR/ddPCR, ELISA, thermal stability assessments, dynamic light scattering (DLS), and other characterization techniques.
  • Supporting the development and optimization of AAV-specific analytical methods while contributing to broader gene therapy and biologics analytical capabilities. Analyzing and interpreting experimental data to draw scientifically sound conclusions and guide subsequent experimental work.
  • Preparing clear, concise presentations and technical reports to communicate experimental findings and recommendations to internal project teams.
  • Collaborating closely with scientists and researchers across departments, as well as a cross-functional mentor team and fellow interns.
  • Completing a special project focused on AAV formulation and PD analytical development, culminating in a presentation of key findings and recommendations.
  • Additional project work involving other biologic modalities (e.g., antibodies) may be included based on program needs and intern skill development.

Requirements:

  • Pursuing an undergraduate degree with an interest in biotechnology
  • Required degree or field: Pharmacology, Bioengineering, Biochemistry, Biology related field
  • Prior experience in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry would be an asset but is not required
  • Familiarity with biopharmaceutical technologies, physical and life sciences, product development, and regulatory approval processes is desirable
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to think creatively and be a team player
  • Offer flexibility with a willingness to work on multiple projects simultaneously
  • Bring to the Company a skill set complementary to its technology and development therapeutics
  • Interest in attending various program events, including social gatherings, career development workshops, and more
  • Ability to commit to a 10-week, full-time summer program
  • Lab Work Requirements: Full-time
