Law Librarian-Law Library-Justice Center

  • Supervise library staff including interviews, hiring, training, creating expectations and duties, and completing performance evaluations
  • Provides legal reference assistance to judicial staff, county staff, attorneys and the public to locate and obtain legal research materials.
  • Prepares and present annual budget to Law Library Committee; Recommends purchases to committee; Monitors administration of the budget, purchases, payment of invoices and collection of monies.
  • Develops and maintains the Law Library collection including print and electronic formats focusing on specialized law materials and databases; Monitors collection for accuracy of materials and provide current materials.
  • Designs, edits and produces monthly newsletter; recommend policy and procedures to the Law Library Committee: maintains internal policy and procedure manual.
  • Attends and participates in Fort Bend County Library Department Head meetings.
  • Work as scheduled at the reference desk in a Fort Bend County Library adult services department.
  • Participates in activities and duties related to emergency management during a local state of disaster as directed by appropriate county managers.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Master's degree in Library Science from an American Library Association accredited school; Knowledge of current library practices and technologies, legal and general databases, reference interview techniques. Experience in the legal profession may be considered in lieu of a master's degree.

  • 3 years job related experience. Legal background and recent public library experience preferred

  • Excellent working knowledge of Westlaw and other databases; good computer skills including ability to create and work with Excel spreadsheets; good verbal/written communication; excellent mathematical skills and ability to work with budgets; supervisory and organizational skills; interpersonal skills and ability to deal effectively with the public, other employees, and elected officials; ability to complete assigned projects in a timely manner.

  • Must have valid driver's license and proof of Texas Liability Insurance Requirements met.

SALARY: $32.26-MIN-$48.39-MAX
