Description

St. Croix Health is looking for a full-time (1.0 FTE) Lead - Mammography/DEXA & Breast Center Imaging Navigator to join our team!

This position is responsible for providing and overseeing quality diagnostic imaging and patient care services as well as serving as the primary steward of the EPIC Breast Care Summary and overseeing all coordination that relates to the Breast Center and breast imaging. Uses care in accurately documenting all pertinent information on necessary forms and in the EMR. Responsible for overseeing and ensuring efficient and effective operation of the daily activities within specific modality(s) and Radiology as directed, as well as preparing for and meeting all regulatory and quality requirements including ACR renewal and MQSA inspection. Under supervision of the Manager of Diagnostic Imaging, collectively responsible for execution of the daily operation of the Diagnostic Imaging department.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Perform imaging procedures at a technical level requiring minimal supervision.
  • Assist radiologist as necessary
  • Partner with other lead technologists to proactively identify and solve problems
  • Serve as patient guide for all breast biopsies and localization procedures
  • Proactively identifies and solves problems in workflow
  1. Ensure imaging quality for assigned area.
  • Uphold the highest standard of image quality and patient safety
  • Seek to expand knowledge by attending/completing educational opportunities
  • Assist with performance improvement initiatives to enhance workflows and patient experience
  • Oversee all quality measures relating to regulatory and safety standards
  1. Employ several computer systems to maintain patient records and orders.
  • Maintain proficiency in RIS and EMR
  • Serve as super-user for specific equipment as directed by department leadership and primary point of contact and subject matter expert for Breast Care Summary
  • Place orders in EHR for follow-up imaging as indicated by the radiologist
  • Supervise acquisition of relevant prior imaging as needed
  1. Identify and report equipment problems.
  • Update to oversee equipment repairs and keep current on work order status as necessary
  • Maintain working relationship with appropriate service engineer and/or physicist
  1. Assist Imaging Leadership to keep studies current.
  • Work with relevant physicians to create exam protocols
  • Assist/advise leaders with new orders builds in EMR and ensuring existing orders are valid and correct
  1. Responsible to adapt in response to external environment and changes in best practices.
  • Works with imaging leadership to continually educate imaging staff on changes/improvements to patient care
  • Educate and assist Imaging Unit Coordinators with basic scheduling to ensure quality patient care and convenience
  1. Assist with day to day operations of Diagnostic Imaging department and Breast Center.
  • Conduct callbacks for diagnostic follow up
  • Work in tandem with the Breast Center Nurse Navigator to provide seamless care along the breast health continuum.
  • Patient care coordination between imaging, breast center, surgery, primary care, and other breast related services
  • Make recommendations on areas of improvement
  • Prepare and support annual MQSA inspections
  • Oversee all assigned staff work schedules
  • Oversee QA/QC as required and responsible for modality accreditation process, if applicable
  • Observe subordinate staff and make recommendations on areas of improvement
  • Assist Imaging Leadership with corrective action as necessary
  • Coordinate orientation and annual competence assessments
  • Assist in updating department policies and procedures
  • Identify budgetary needs for area of responsibility
  • Exercise supervisory authority in the absence of Imaging Leadership
  1. Perform other duties as necessary or required by assignment.
  • Accept responsibility for students or prospective students placed in imaging department
  • Take time to share experience and knowledge with future healthcare professionals
  • Serve as a model professional
  • Track and document all mammography technologist, radiologist, and physicist credentials

Requirements

Education & Licensure:

  • Registered by American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (R.T. ARRT)
  • Certification (or certification eligible) in area of responsibility required
  • Additional certifications preferred
  • Current WI Radiographer license
  • Breast Health Clinical Navigator (BHCN) certification a plus
  • BLS licensure

Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in Mammography
  • Multimodality and leadership experience desired
  • Must have at least 2 years (or equivalent) experience as a Radiologic Technologist

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Effective leadership skills; able to lead small group projects
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with little direction and manage multiple demands and priorities
  • Excellent communication and listening skills
  • Ability to understand oral and written instructions stated in medical and radiologic terms
  • Strong time management skills
  • Ability to maintain department cleanliness standards including orderly patient exam rooms
  • Mechanical abilities helpful

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position will assist the Imaging Leadership team with coaching, training, interviewing and overall performance management initiatives. Serves as authoritative figure in leaderships absence. This person will not have any direct reports.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Prolonged periods of standing, bending, and reaching
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times
