Job Description
Days- Wednesday 12pm-6pm and Thursday-Saturday 6am-6pm
The purpose of this position is to maintain the Company fleet in accordance with established schedules and all government regulations.
ESSENTIAL POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
- Directs the activities of other hourly diesel mechanics. Ensures that the mechanics are following company policies, using the time clock correctly, and performing other duties as instructed.
- Works with the supervisor in order to keep him informed of the progress of the shop and production. Also performs other diesel mechanic duties.
- Accomplishes tire work and light maintenance on Company fleet vehicles. (Lights, mud flaps, minor wiring, hoses, belts, etc.)
- Rewires trucks, trailers, loaders, etc.
- Reads hydraulic pressure gauges, replace hoses, couplers & pumps as well as troubleshoot and make the necessary repairs as needed. Performs basic welding and is able to identify all tools and parts needed for Company vehicles.
- Understands suction and discharge pressures, charge units, know and understand the components of refrigeration. Finds and repairs freon leaks.
- Diagnoses and repairs any company equipment that requires service. This could include forklifts, trailers, company pickup trucks, etc.
Participates as a member of the Team. Participates in ongoing development, communication and implementation of team concepts, programs and policies; coordinates work to ensure best practices with all team members. Attends appropriate team meetings. As a member of the Team, fosters strong cohesiveness regarding all major issues; e.g., direction, annual plan, budget, policy changes, etc. Accepts responsibility to quickly identify any areas that lack cohesiveness, bringing them to the attention of the team leader and working with the team in a supportive manner to resolve issues and actively look for ways, and reinforces actions needed, to achieve synergy possible within the larger organization.
Simmons Operating systems principles and objectives (this competency appears in all job descriptions): Is familiar with Simmons' established operating systems (e.g. quality, security, office environment, company policies); understands the responsibility to maintain familiarity with the systems and this position's role in support of these systems - including a consideration of the impact of individual actions on the systems and the responsibility to communicate concerns and improvement ideas.
Performs other duties as necessary in support of business objectives: This position description is intended to guide the activities of the Diesel Mechanic- Level 5 and is not intended to limit the thinking and creativity of the person to the work of this function nor is it intended that this describe all the work that may be required of the person in this position.
Physical Activities: Be able to efficiently work in a garage environment. Regularly required to stand, reach and move about the facility. Various levels of physical effort required.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Will use appropriate footwear, gloves, hearing protection, safety glasses and other protective equipment as needed or required.
Travel: NA
Technical Experience: Must be proficient in previous level's requirements. In addition, employee must excel in working with all components on all trucks, trailers, loaders, light duty vehicles, and farm machinery. Certification from a Vo-tech or trade school a plus. Must have the following tools: All tools listed in previous levels, plus all specialty tools to perform engine overhauls as well as anything else needed to work on the newer changing equipment.
Industry Experience: Preference for poultry or food processing organization.
Competencies: Demonstrates the ability to complete work independently and in a team with limited supervision. Communication skills & decision quality- Must have the ability to make good decisions and communicate effectively with others and leadership team
