Job Description

This is a 1st shift position, Monday through Friday with some flexbility of hours.

POSITION SUMMARY:

This position provides daily leadership and hands-on custodial support within Hutchinson Community College's student housing facilities. Along with the Coordinator of Custodial Services and Residence Life staff this position ensures that all dorm common areas are clean, safe, and well maintained. This position acts as the primary contact for day-to-day custodial operations to maintain high standards of cleanliness, professionalism, as well as assisting both the Coordinator of Custodial Services and the Director of Facilities in the hiring, supervision, and coordinating the dorm custodial staff.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Essential -

  • Oversee and support six (6) custodial staff assigned to HutchCC's Residence Life facilities.

  • Supervise and train dorm custodial staff in proper cleaning methods, safety procedures, time management, and teamwork.

  • Conduct daily inspections to ensure tasks are completed and meet our expectations.

  • Assign and adjust cleaning schedules to ensure consistent coverage during absences or special projects.

  • Serve as the on-site point of contact for custodial concerns, coordinating communication between custodians, housing staff, and the Coordinator of Custodial Services.

  • Model professionalism and maintain a positive, respectful work environment.

  • Perform and oversee both routine and detailed cleaning of residence hall restrooms, lounges, hallways, laundry areas, stairwells, and entryways inside and out.

  • Operate and maintain custodial equipment including vacuums, scrubbers, and extractors.

  • Monitor and maintain supply levels; ensure all cleaning chemicals and tools are safely used and stored.

  • Participate in deep cleaning and room turnover during semester breaks, move-ins, and move-outs.

  • Report maintenance needs, building issues, or safety concerns promptly.

  • Assist in evaluating staff performance and providing feedback to the Coordinator of Custodial Services.

  • Attend department meetings and contribute to continuous improvement of custodial operations.

  • Work as a team with all HutchCC Facilities

  • Develop, recommend, and implement new operational practices.

  • Respond to issues as they arise and decide what actions are needed based on the situation.

  • Ability to work as needed including evenings, nights, weekends, and Serve actively on campus committees.

  • Arrive on time for work and successfully perform the responsibilities of the postion.

Secondary -

  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned by the Coordinator of Custodial Services and Director of Facilities.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in floor care, carpet extraction, and residential cleaning.

  • Knowledge of cleaning standards in a dorm or apartment-style housing.

  • Familiarity with student housing operations or campus environments.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Minimum of three (3) years of custodial experience, preferably in a residential or educational setting.

  • Prior leadership or supervisory experience.

  • Ability to communicate clearly, follow instructions, and lead a team effectively.

  • Basic computer literacy for communication and recordkeeping.

  • Good communication both verbally and written.

  • Must be neat, clean, and organized.

  • Must be skilled in observing situations, decision making, and taking appropriate actions.

  • Physical requirements include excellent vision; excellent eye/hand/foot

coordination sufficient to operate equipment, and the ability to assist in lifting heavy objects (possibly up to 50 pounds).

May work in adverse conditions such as weather, possible exposure to blood, bodily fluids, tissue, and communicable disease. This job is predominately indoor/outdoor work environment.

SALARY and STATUS:

The employee in this position will work 40 hours per week. This full-time support staff position is 12 months annual, benefit eligible, nonexempt, and at-will.

HutchCC CSA JOB DESCRIPTION ADDENDUM:

This position satisfies the duties of a Campus Security Authority (CSA) relating to Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act ("Clery Act") by:

  • Promptly reporting Clery Act crimes and/or allegations of Clery Act crimes tothe designated HutchCC official(s) in accordance with applicable laws, policies, and
  • Completing any HutchCC provided CSA training regarding campus safety and crime reporting issues.
  • Assisting in the issuance of timely warnings and emergency notifications in accordance with applicable laws, policies, and procedures.
  • Serving as a resource to students, employees, and others regarding crime prevention, reporting and victim assistance; and
  • Collaborating with the Coordinator of Campus Safety, the Coordinator of Equity & Compliance, and the Director of Human Resources, regarding campus safety and compliance
  • A professional counselor, as designated by HutchCC and whose official responsibilities include providing mental health counseling to members of the HutchCC community, may be exempt from reporting Clery Act crimes and/or allegations of Clery Act crimes when functioning within the scope of the counselor's license or certification.
