Job Description
PRIMARY FUNCTION
The Lead Gas Technician performs a wide variety of tasks in the field relating to the planning, installation, and maintenance of piping system, and to serving residential, commercial, and industrial customers. This individual’s primary work is on piping systems, pressure regulating equipment, and customer meters. Daily duties are completing and assigning work to other technicians for customer installations, rebuilds, and adjustments of nearly any component of the utility field infrastructure. As well as locating natural gas facilities and meter reading. The Gas Technician will enter businesses, industrial complexes, and customers’ homes and contacts businesses, homeowners, and industrial customers to explain technical subjects. If necessary, this individual will prepare written memos communicating complex topics and problems to customers. This position assumes a high level of autonomy and self-motivation to completing other duties as assigned. Works with Operations Manager to ensure compliance with O&M quality standards and required deadlines.
QUALIFICATIONS
A Lead Gas Tech. must complete nine years of satisfactory service as a Gas Technician. The availability of this position is determined at the sole discretion of the Company. A Lead Gas Tech. must set a positive example for others, be reliable, hardworking, possess a willingness to teach others, and take and give direction well. A Gas Tech. will maintain a current Maine Fuel Board License, pass all required Operator Qualifications for the position, and maintain a N.A.C.E certification. The position will perform labor intensive tasks both indoors and outdoors; including but not limited to-wrenching, shoveling, lifting, pulling, standing, kneeling, for long periods of time.

- Clearly and legibly complete written or electronic forms as required and proficient with Microsoft office, GPS mapping programs, and electronic pressure and measurement devices
- First responder for odor calls and gas service emergencies
- Highly Proficient in the use and interpretation of SCADA
- Ability to prioritize tasks based on deadlines and efficiency
- Able to recognize and react to Abnormal Operating Conditions
- Perform customer requested work orders in a timely manner
- Complete compliance, operating, and maintenance tasks in a timely manner
WORKING CONDITIONS
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Daily activity is fast paced, physically demanding, and with production goals. Duties involve heavy lifting and manual labor. The individual must be available for emergency callouts and be able to work extended hours; job site reporting is common.
Majority of the workday is spent outdoors; therefore, this individual is exposed to (and must have tolerance for) extremes of heat, cold, noise, and dust. Exposure to construction equipment and normal driving hazards is encountered regularly.
SAFETY SENSITIVE JOB:
This is a safety sensitive job and as such is subject to random drug testing as required by the U.S. Department of Transportation (D.O.T.). Employment is contingent upon passing a pre-employment physical examination and completing DOT OQ courses.
