CardWorks, Inc. is a diversified consumer finance service provider and parent company of CardWorks Servicing, LLC, Merrick Bank and Carson Smithfield, LLC.
CardWorks Servicing, LLC provides end-to end operational servicing functions for credit cards, secured cards, and installment loans. We service consumer and small business loans across the credit spectrum and offers backup servicing and due diligence services to capital providers and trustees.
Merrick Bank is an FDIC-insured Utah Industrial Loan Bank. Merrick operates three main business lines: credit cards, recreational lending, and merchant services.
Carson Smithfield, LLC provides a variety of post-charge-off debt recovery services, including digital self-service, IVR, live agent, and external agency management.
Position Summary:
The Legal Coordinator provides a variety of administrative and support functions within the Legal Business Unit. This role will have a strong focus on supporting the Company’s state licensing program, including generating and monitoring various state-mandated reports. Additionally, the role will provide general administrative support to the Legal team, including preparing and proofreading legal documents, preparing departmental reporting, organizing and maintaining files and expense processing.
Essential Functions:
· Interacts with colleagues and leadership in a professional and courteous manner while ensuring that deadlines are met
· Supports the maintenance and renewal of state licenses on behalf of various CardWorks entities, ensuring compliance with applicable regulations.
· Assist in partnering with management in the Finance, Collections, and Recovery areas to ensure accuracy of collection activity information submitted for annual reports
· Assists with the annual filings and tax fees (or comparable state term) necessary for the maintenance of Secretary of State Certificates of Authority
· Monitors and tracks licensing deliverable deadlines via SharePoint
· Manages submissions of state license updates along with appropriate payment for paper renewals for those that are not in the “Nationwide Multistate Licensing System (“NMLS”).
· Assists with the gathering of requested documentation in response to state license exams/audits
· Coordinates display and accessibility of physical licenses across all CardWorks locations
· Remains knowledgeable and informed of current state requirements for licensing purposes
· Annual review of licensing procedures and creation of new procedures as needed.
· Assists with vetting and application process for new control officers and branch managers as required by licensing state authorities.
· Provides support to paralegal team by monitoring workflows including, subpoenas, consumer complaint response reviews and routing registered agent filings.
· Performs general office duties to support the overall function of the Legal Business Unit
· Performs other duties as assigned
Education and Experience:
· Associate’s degree required, bachelor's degree preferred
· Experience with financial services licensing process strongly preferred
· Familiar with basic consumer credit regulations a plus
· Prior exposure to legal work or experience supporting a legal department or law firm work is a plus
· Strong/Advanced Microsoft Excel and Word expertise required

· Strong written and oral communication skills
· Ability to effectively and professionally work with different leveled roles
· Demonstrates adaptability in supporting evolving business needs and priorities

· Demonstrates creativity and enthusiasm to enhance departmental processes
The salary range for this position, if located in NY Metro/NY State is $22.00 to $25.00 an hour. However, please note that the salary range will vary for other geographic areas.
