Background:
The Wentworth Institute of Technology Physical Plant Department provides professional, high quality and cost-effective services to the faculty, staff and students at the University. The commitment includes planning, building, maintaining and operating the department to maximize long-term value. Each Facilities employee is expected to meet the needs of our customers and strive to exceed their expectations.
Duties for the Licensed HVAC Technician:
Respond trouble-shoot and repair HVAC calls across the 1.4M sq ft campus including academic, laboratory and residential spaces.
Install/replace/repair all types of HVAC related equipment including boilers, air handling units, unit ventilators, fan coils, motors, pumps, steam traps, valves, actuators boiler components, steam and hydronic piping and much more.
Operate and monitor both JCI and ENE Schneider Eco Structure controls.
Complete Preventive Maintenance work orders as well as service call work orders as assigned and scheduled.
Daily time entry in Work Order system to maintain proper accountability of service provided, stock and hours on the jobs.
Work as directed by MEP coordinator and or others in similar capacities.
Provide on-call services by scheduled rotation beyond basic work schedule.
Assist other shops as instructed to accomplish common tasks or goals whether event related or for other reasons.
Qualifications and Basic Requirements:
Position requires 3+ years of experience and extensive knowledge in the maintenance, installation and cleaning of various types of heating, ventilating, air conditioning and refrigeration equipment and systems.
Candidate must have a current, valid Massachusetts Driver’s License.
Candidate must possess a current Massachusetts Journeyman’s Refrigeration License.
Candidate must possess EPA Certification.
Reading, writing and comprehension of the English language is required as well as the ability to compute addition, subtraction, multiplication and division functions using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
High School diploma or equivalent is required.
Must be able to read and understand blueprints and HVAC diagrams and demonstrate the ability to use or be willing to learn the Wentworth work order system.
Must have a basic knowledge of computers and operate accordingly.
Must be able to work with minimal supervision and as a team when required or needed.
Preferred Qualifications:
Trade or vocational school is strongly preferred.
3+ years of working with electric motors, actuators, controls and associated wiring.
3+ years of dealing with ducted systems and components.
5+ years of experience with basic maintenance practices.
3+ years of rebuilding steam traps.
3+ years of experience with boiler water treatment process and monitoring.
Must be professional, adaptable and can work pleasantly and tactfully with fellow employees, faculty, students and staff.
To complete jobs using the right knowledge and materials, and to do so in a safe and timely manner.
Develop new and creative ways of keeping both interior and exterior of the building components well maintained.
Maintain a mindset that we are a service organization and strive to improve on service both as an individual and as part of a department. Proving to the customer that you are working in their best interests.
Special Work Schedule Requirements:
This is a Monday - Friday day shift. Additional or multiple shifts on occasion.
This position by rotation is required to be on-call.
Additional Position Details:
Wentworth Institute of Technology and the Service Employees International Union, Local 32BJ, District 615 (the “Union”) have a collective bargaining agreement covering Facilities employees.
The hourly rate for this position in the current year is $46.71.
