LightArt is seeking a talented mechanical/industrial designer to join our team. The prospective applicant will be responsible for designing custom light fixtures and architectural details based on loose initial concepts and sketches provided by a project manager. They will also be responsible for creating proper documentation for designs in the form of bills of materials and dimension drawings using SolidWorks
Responsibilities:
- Schedule cut parts through autocad.
- Ensure quantities are accurate prior to sending to the shop floor.
- Ensure correct parts have been selected.
- Ensure nesting for material is accurate.
- Quote material needs.
- Ability to transfer material
- Learn how to build all fixtures on the shop floor.
- Learn how to build out drawings for all products.
- Work with sales to deliver drawings on time to the customer.
- Help to design custom products for customers.
- Learn lighting with LEDs, controls and drivers.
- Troubleshoot production issues.
Qualifications:
- B.S. in mechanical engineering, Industrial design or related field (experience may be substituted for degree)
- 2+ years experience using SolidWorks
- 2+ years of experience in a design and manufacturing environment
- Experience designing weldments and sheet metal components in SolidWorks
- Experience with large assemblies and drawing sets
- Experience with creating surface models
- Proficiency with AutoCAD
- Basic understanding of ANSI/ASME drawing standards
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Adobe Acrobat
- Basic knowledge of hardware and common materials
- Knowledge of common manufacturing processes (CNC laser, router, 5-axis router, water jet, welding, riveting, adhesives, heat forming, blow molding, etc.)
Desirable Qualities (not required):
- CNC programming experience in MasterCam for SolidWorks or EnRoute
- Experience using Solid Works PDM
- Experience with FEA
- Project management experience
- Leadership experience
- Experience with other CAD software (Rhino, SketchUp, Revit, etc.)
- 3D Printing Experience
- Knowledge of UL and CSA standards
- Experience with lighting and electrical design
