Job Description:

Position Overview: We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced machinist to join our rapid prototyping shop. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in machining, with the ability to produce high-quality prototypes efficiently and accurately. This role requires proficiency in operating laser tables and tube cutters, along with traditional CNC equipment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Machining Operations: Perform complex machining operations using CNC mills, lathes, laser tables, and tube cutters to create precise prototypes.
  • Programming and Setup: Develop, modify, and optimize CNC programs for prototype production, ensuring efficient and accurate machining processes.
  • Quality Control: Conduct thorough inspections of machined parts to ensure they meet design specifications and quality standards. Utilize precision measuring tools to verify dimensions and tolerances.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with engineers and designers to understand project requirements and provide input on manufacturability. Participate in design reviews and offer suggestions for improving prototype designs.
  • Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance on machining equipment, including CNC machines, laser tables, and tube cutters, to ensure optimal performance and longevity. Troubleshoot and resolve equipment issues as needed.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate records of machining processes, including setup sheets, tool lists, inspection reports, and maintenance logs. Ensure all documentation is up-to-date and accessible.
  • Safety: Adhere to all safety protocols and guidelines to maintain a safe working environment. Participate in safety training and contribute to a culture of safety within the shop.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement changes to enhance efficiency, quality, and productivity. Stay current with industry trends and advancements in machining technology.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience as a machinist, with a strong background in CNC programming, setup, and operation. Experience with laser tables and tube cutters is highly desirable.
  • Technical Skills: Proficient in operating and programming CNC mills, lathes, laser tables, and tube cutters. Strong understanding of machining principles, techniques, and materials.
  • Attention to Detail: Exceptional attention to detail and precision in all aspects of machining and inspection. Ability to produce high-quality prototypes that meet stringent design specifications.
  • Problem-Solving: Ability to troubleshoot and resolve machining issues effectively. Strong analytical skills and the ability to think critically and creatively.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with team members. Ability to explain technical concepts clearly and concisely.
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; technical certification or associate degree in machining or related field preferred. Additional training in CNC programming and laser table operation is a plus.
  • Adaptability: Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously. Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and deadlines.

The expected wage range for a new hire into this position is $31 to $39.

  • Actual wage offered may vary depending on work location, experience, education, training, external market data, internal pay equity, or other bona fide factors.
