Position: Western Colorado University invites applications for the full-time position of Mail Center Manager. The position reports to the Director of the University Center, works closely with students, staff, and faculty, and is responsible for Managing all aspects of the Mail Center operations and staff. This position is not eligible for remote work.
Responsibilities: The Mail Center Manager is responsible for ensuring the efficient and secure processing, distribution, and delivery of all letter mail, packages and inter-office correspondence for Western Colorado University's academic and administrative departments as well as mail for students living on campus. They will hire, train, and supervise 10-12 students to assist in daily operations. This role requires adherence to all applicable regulations from the U.S. Postal Service, private carriers (such as FedEx, and UPS), and university security standards related to mail handling.
The Mail Center Manager is a physically demanding position, which requires constantly moving packages up to 10 lbs, frequently moving items up to 20 lbs and occasionally moving packages up to 50 lbs. Mail services operate five days a week during the academic year, requiring consistent coordination, attention to detail, and a commitment to service quality.
The Mail Center provides shipping services for campus and community members and coordinates the Summer Storage Program. The Mail Center Manager oversees all revenue data collection, reconciliation and reporting.
The Mail Center is also a Passport Acceptance Facility and provides passport services to WCU and the Gunnison/Crested Butte community. The Mail Center is responsible for staffing/training Passport Acceptance Agents and for remaining compliant with updates through the U.S. Department of State.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree
- Three (3) years of experience in operations, logistics, or a related administrative role
- Valid Colorado Driver's License
- Working knowledge of and some administrative experience with software platforms
- Ability to analyze and optimize mail processing procedures
- Strong organizational and communication skills for coordinating services and training staff
- Ability to meet the functional attributes described in the responsibilities
In order to be a Passport Acceptance Agent, the applicant must meet the following requirements:
- (1) Is a U.S. citizen or a U.S. non-citizen national;
- (2) Is 18 years of age or older
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with postal operations or mail operations
- Working knowledge of software platforms including, but not limited to: Workday, Star Rez, shipping programs, tracking programs, and the USPS Customer Gateway.
- Familiarity with postal regulations and private carrier policies
Compensation: $50,000 - $54,000. This position is FLSA exempt. Western offers an excellent benefits package including shared premiums for a comprehensive health insurance plan, dental insurance, retirement plan, life insurance, and other insurance options. After one year of employment, Western provides free tuition for dependents enrolled full time in undergraduate programs for up to four years.
