Job Description
Cooperidge Consulting Firm is seeking an Electrical Maintenance Engineer/Manager for a top Heavy Industrial & Mining flagship facility in Detroit, MI.
This is a unique "succession" role designed for a seasoned engineer to shadow the current leadership and transition into the Maintenance and Reliability Superintendent position within 6–12 months. The role is responsible for the design, modification, and reliability of complex industrial manufacturing equipment, with a heavy emphasis on electrical systems. The ideal candidate will leverage engineering principles to eliminate recurring downtime and execute high-value capital projects in an environment that is resistant to economic downturns.Job Responsibilities
- Strategic Reliability: Analyze equipment demands and failures to identify recurring issues; propose and implement engineering solutions to eliminate production downtime.
- Maintenance Strategy: Develop and lead efficient strategies for equipment utilization, focusing on the collection of data to optimize the Maintenance/Mechanical PM (Preventive) and PdM (Predictive) programs.
- Capital Project Execution: Lead the full lifecycle of expense and capital projects—from generating scope of work and budget estimates to awarding bids and overseeing contractor execution.
- Engineering Design: Use computer-assisted design software to modify existing facilities or design new plant equipment, considering cost, space, and technical feasibility.
- Performance Analysis: Compile and analyze operational data to establish performance standards for newly modified equipment and identify opportunities for system-wide improvement.
- Supervision: Direct and inspect the work of assorted contractors and internal maintenance personnel in strict accordance with EHS (Environmental, Health, and Safety) regulations.
- Technical Consulting: Provide expert technical information regarding manufacturing techniques and material properties to assist in long-range plant engineering planning.
Requirements
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, or Industrial) is REQUIRED.
Experience
- 5–15 years of Engineering and Maintenance experience is REQUIRED.
- Strong Electrical experience (High Voltage) in a Heavy Industrial environment is MANDATORY.
- Experience in Manufacturing or Mining (MSHA-regulated environments) is highly preferred.
- CMMS experience and Reliability Certification (CMRP) are preferred.
Knowledge & Skills
- Knowledge of mine ventilation, materials handling systems, and shaft maintenance is a plus.
- Familiarity with federal mining laws (MSHA) and mining methods.
- Ability to work an extended schedule (approx. 55 hours per week) covering first and partial third shifts.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to climb ladders, crawl, and bend regularly in varying outdoor temperatures.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly.
- Commitment to wearing full PPE, including steel-toed boots and safety glasses.
