Job Description

Department:Diagnostic ImagingSchedule/Status:7:00am-5:30pm; Full TimeStandard Hours/Week:40General Description: Under the direct supervision of the Parrish Healthcare Center, Diagnostic Imaging Lead, performs radiographic procedures in both general radiology and mammography areas at Parrish Healthcare Center at Port St. John (PHC). Key Responsibilities:
  • Provides all aspects of Diagnostic Radiology care based on established standards. DEMONSTRATES COMPETENCY in all procedures within the scope of practice, as appropriate to the ages of the patients served evidenced by: The ability to obtain information and interpret information in terms of the patient’s needs; a knowledge of growth and development; and understanding of how to compensate technical factors to provide an optimal clinical image for interpretation. Age groups that pertain include:   XXX INFANT    XXX PEDIATRIC   XXX ADULT         XXX ADOLESCENT    XXX GERIATRIC 
  • Selects proper technical factors, positioning and equipment to optimally demonstrate patient anatomy and corresponding pathology. Uses department protocol for positions selected. Demonstrates good judgement of acceptable completed exam quality in the absence of a supervisor. 
  • Ensures patient and personal radiation protection by ascertaining pregnancy status when indicated, using gonadal shielding when appropriate and practicing ALARA principles (time, distance, shielding) of dose reduction.
  • Completes timely and accurate computer entry duties including exam status change, billing additions or corrections, patient tracking time entries and other defined responsibilities that may vary from technologist to technologist. Ensures all diagnostic mammography patient orders meet medical necessity.
  • Communicates patient needs and/or pertinent assessment information to the radiologist (or other healthcare providers) as it pertains to the exam.
  • Participates in the exam progression process by pulling master film jackets, annotating the jacket face, collating relevant studies, hanging films for interpretation or assisting in the report distribution process. Uses time productively by seeking department activities to assist with when x-ray needs are decreased.
  • Cleans and stocks x-ray rooms as assigned. Cleans x-ray equipment and follows infection control guidelines for waste disposal. Reads posted department communications and attends staff meetings.
  • Provides all aspects of mammography care based on regulatory standards established by, MQSA and the ACR.  Provides patient breast care education and advanced breast imaging techniques, such as, needle locations, magnification, cone compression, and implant studies.
  • Completes all activities to meet Quality Control requirements in compliance with ACR and MQSA guidelines (i.e. processor, screens, phantoms imaging, screen/cassette identification).  Troubleshoots problems as they occur.
  • Maintains accurate records regarding QC, continuing education, patient information, and statistical data for MQSA inspection and ACR certification.
  • Knows fire, disaster and safety procedures and regulations as pertains to the work area.
  • Performs similar or related duties as assigned.
Requirements:Formal Education:
  •  Associate's Degree, ADN or other Two Year College equivalent required. 
Work experience:
  • 1 year to
Required Licenses, Certifications, Registrations: 
  • Florida State DOH License
  • ARRT Registered RT®-Required 
  • ARRT Registered RT(M) Required or registry eligible within 6 months of hiring 
  • BCLS form American Heart Association
