The University of Miami/UHealth Department of SCCC has an exciting opportunity for a Full Time Manager, Nursing to work at the UHealth campus in Miami, Fl.
The Manager, Nursing promotes and restores patients' health by developing day-to-day management and long-term planning of the patient care area, directing and developing staff, collaborating with physicians and multi-disciplinary professional staffs, and providing physical and psychological support for patients and their friends and families. This employee enforces professional staff behaviors that facilitate positive relationships among colleagues, physicians, administrators, and other hospital personnel.
CORE JOB FUNCTIONS
Oversees patient flow through designated clinical areas. Maintains nursing guidelines by writing and updating policies and procedures. Maintains nursing operations by initiating, coordinating, and enforcing program, operational, and personnel policies and procedures. Assures quality of care by developing and interpreting hospital and nursing division's philosophies and standards of care, enforcing adherence to state board of nursing and state nurse practice act requirements, and to other governing agency regulations, and measuring health outcomes against standards. Maintains nursing staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training nurses and auxiliary staff. Completes patient care requirements by assigning nursing and staff. Maintains nursing staff job results by coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees. Establishes a compassionate environment by providing emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to patients and their friends and families. Promotes patients' independence by establishing patient care goals, teaching and counseling patients, and reinforcing patients' understanding of disease, medications, and self-care. Resolves patient needs by utilizing multidisciplinary team strategies. Maintains a safe and clean working environment by designing and implementing related procedures, rules, and regulations. Accounts for the collection of data to ensure performance improvement and optimal customer service standards. Assures all staff meet mandatory continuing education requirements and yearly hospital-based competencies. Provides insight on the unit(s) operations to nursing leadership to assist in the development of strategic planning and departmental expansion. Establishes and continuously assesses the effectiveness of the internal controls within the unit and compliance with University policies and procedures. Ensures employees are trained on controls within the function and on University policy and procedures. CORE QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Bachelor's degree in relevant field
Certification and Licensing:
Registered Nurse Licensure (RN) Florida License
BLS certification
Experience:
Minimum 3 years of relevant experience
Certified Clinical Research Professional (CCRP) or Association of Clinical Research Professionals (ACRP) required or willingness to take certification within 6 months acceptable.
Oncology Certification in Nursing (OCN) preferred; willingness to undertake certification acceptable.
Experience (minimum 3-5 years) in cancer clinical trials at a research institution and/or pharmaceutical company required.
Thorough understanding of Good Clinical Practice guidelines, Code of Federal Regulations, clinical trials monitoring, regulatory compliance.
Strong qualitative skills and knowledge of study design.
Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:
Ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships.
Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
Proficiency in computer software (i.e., Microsoft Office).
Knowledge of business and management principles.
Ability to effectively plan, delegate and/or supervise the work of others.
Ability to lead, motivate, develop, and train others.
Department Specific Functions
Lead the Research Nurse team as a primary resource and role model.
Assist in the recruitment, training and mentoring of the Research Nurse team members.
Provide daily oversight and identify/assist in problem solving clinic and team issues.
Provide input in monitoring Research Nurse workload and performance.
Provide clinical trial support in the Hospital and clinic setting to ensure patients are offered appropriate clinical trials following Good Clinical Practice standards.
Assess and document the patient's compliance and response to protocol treatment.
Screen patients/patient records to identify potential trial candidates and notify the treating physician and Clinical Trials support staff.
Provide Clinical Trial support staff with the documentation needed to determine eligibility and maintain compliance.
Provide conduit between physicians, allied health professionals, nursing staff and clinical trial patients regarding trial related issues to maintain a safe environment for the patient while maintaining compliance.
Communicate with patients, families, staff and peers to ensure that treatment plans and research related interventions and activities are understood, and revised as appropriate.
Provide potential and registered clinical trial patients with contact information to ensure that patients and families have an avenue to direct questions about the clinical trial that they were offered.
Provide a consistent and accessible resource for physicians and clinical staff regarding clinical trials.
Demonstrate an understanding of and a commitment to customer service values of respect, courtesy, ownership, privacy, professionalism and responsiveness.
Initiate and maintain open communication with other members of the team to assure that the patient and family receive the full scope of interdisciplinary expertise and services along with care provided by participation in a clinical trial.
Participate in the development of general goals of Clinical Research Services.
Adhere to all UM/SCCC and CTO policies and procedures.
