Location: Nashville, TNReports to: CEO, COO and the Board of DirectorsJob Type: Full-TimeSalary: $65,000 – $85,000 per year (commensurate with experience)

Position Overview
Aerial Recovery seeks a highly skilled and mission-driven Finance Director (Controller)to lead the organization’s financial operations, strengthen financial governance, andensure full compliance with nonprofit regulations.This role combines hands-on accounting management with strategic financialleadership, working closely with the executive team and Board of Directors to ensurethe organization operates with excellence, transparency, and accountability.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Leadership & Strategy- Oversee all financial operations, reporting directly to the CEO and Board Finance Committee.
- Partner with leadership to develop long-term financial strategies that supportorganizational growth and sustainability.
- Provide actionable insights and financial recommendations to inform strategic decision-making.
Governance, Compliance & Internal Controls
- Ensure full compliance with nonprofit financial regulations, GAAP, IRS reporting, and donor requirements.
- Lead audit preparation, coordinating with external auditors and ensuring accurate, timely submissions.
- Develop, implement, and refine financial governance frameworks and best practice policies to strengthen organizational accountability.
- Oversee proper coding, reconciliations, and approvals across all transactions.
Budgeting & Financial Reporting
- Lead annual budgeting processes in partnership with the executive team.
- Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for leadership and the Board.
- Maintain real-time cash flow projections and funding forecasts.
Grant, Donor & Fund Accounting
- Manage tracking of restricted and unrestricted funds, ensuring proper allocation per donor agreements.
- Oversee grant financial reporting, compliance requirements, and partnership invoicing.
- Support fundraising and development teams with financial insights, donor impact reporting, and gala fundraising strategies.
Operational Finance & Team Collaboration
- Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and expense management.
- Ensure reconciliations of bank accounts, credit cards, and Divvy/Bill.com accounts monthly.
- Collaborate with the operations and programs teams to ensure alignment of financial
systems with mission priorities.
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 5+ years of progressive accounting or finance experience, with at least 3 years in the nonprofit sector.
- Demonstrated experience with fund accounting, donor reporting, and managing restricted vs. unrestricted funds.- Proficiency with accounting and CRM systems (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage Intacct, Salesforce, Give Lively).
- Strong understanding of GAAP, IRS nonprofit compliance, and audit preparation.
- Exceptional organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
Preferred:
- CPA, CMA, or CNAP certification.
- Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Nonprofit Management.
- Experience supporting international operations or multi-country compliance.
