Marketing & Social Media Student Employee, Office of Student Activities

Job Description:

OSA Mission: The Office of Student Activities strives to provide opportunities for students to discover, practice, and develop their personal and professional skill sets through campus involvement opportunities including clubs, Student Government, leadership trainings, recreation programs, and social events.

POSITION TITLE: Student Employee, Marketing and Social Media

STATUS: Part time

DEPARTMENT: Office of Student Activities

DIVISION: Student Development

REPORTS TO: Amy Kuspa Sims

CLASSIFICATION: Non-exempt

MINIMIUM PAY RATE: $15.00 per hour

(Position is FWS Eligible)

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Develop, design, and schedule content for the department's social media channels (Instagram, Facebook, etc.) in alignment with campus brand guidelines.

  2. Create digital and print marketing materials, including event flyers, weekly announcement graphics, promotional banners, and celebration posts (e.g., heritage months, holidays, student spotlights).

  3. Collaborate with the student activities team to brainstorm and plan marketing strategies for upcoming programs.

  4. Assist in writing engaging captions for posts to increase student engagement and awareness.

  5. Monitor trends in social media and student engagement to help evolve digital outreach strategies.

  6. Attend campus events to capture photos and videos for use in social media and promotional campaigns (as needed).

  7. Provide excellent customer service to students, staff, faculty, and community members who visit the Office of Student Activities, through greetings, answering questions, and taking messages.

  8. Attend campus events to assist with hosting OSA sponsored events, in-person and virtually. Tasks may include, but are not limited to, assisting with event preparation, set-up, clean-up, decorating, food set-up and serving, checking-in students, working the popcorn machine, moving equipment and supplies, and other tasks as assigned.

  9. Design marketing for OSA events including flyers, brochures, banners, bulletin boards, monthly calendars, and free-standing signs. These efforts include, but are not limited to, print media, digital media, handwritten signs, social media, videos, personal outreach, and other creative marketing efforts.

  10. Wearing the JJC Mascot for OSA and campus events.

Work assigned hours in the E-Sports Lab and the Design Thinking Lab to check in students, provide light technical support, and check out materials or equipment.

  1. Work evening and weekend events when requested. Specifically, November through March to assist with Comfort Zones held on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday nights between 4pm and 6pm. Hours and days will vary.

  2. Perform related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1. GPA of 2.0 or higher.

  2. Must be enrolled at JJC in at least 6 credit hours in fall/spring semester.

  3. Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills

  4. Ability to take personal initiative and work as a team player

  5. Personable, respectful, responsible, and creative

  6. Familiar with Microsoft Office applications

  7. Excellent with Social Media platforms, including Instagram, Facebook, Twitter & Snapchat 8. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with other members of the college and community, displaying cultural competence as well as emotional intelligence.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Experienced with publishing software (Publisher, Canva and Photoshop preferred)

  2. Knowledge of college resources

  3. Ability to write legibly

  4. Ability to work on various JJC campuses (Main Campus, Romeoville Campus, City Center Campus)

  5. English, Spanish and/or other languages verbal and written communication proficiency

  6. Demonstrated multicultural competence

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Moving throughout campus, walking and standing for periods of time

Lifting and moving supplies up to 50 pounds

Climbing on ladders on occasion is also required

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Office setting, in-person events in a variety of locations, and virtual events. Events can be held both inside and outside.

Scheduled Weekly Hours: This is a student employee position that works around your class schedule. May work up to 20 hours per week during the fall and spring semesters. During summer and holiday breaks (Winter/Spring), may work up to 28 hours per week with supervisor approval.
