Position: Master Electrician
Department: Install
Reports To: Director of Operations
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Experience Level: 10+ years experience required
The Master Electrician installs, services, and maintains electrical systems for commercial mechanical structures, equipment, and related components on new, remodel, and repair projects. This role performs Master level electrical work safely, efficiently, and with expert knowledge. The position has no direct reports and works primarily independently, with occasional teamwork, under direct supervision.
Essential Functions/Responsibilities
- Performs skilled electrical installations, maintenance, and repairs in compliance with trade standards, building codes, and safety requirements.
- Reads and interprets blueprints and drawings and completes electrical calculations to determine specifications, materials, and equipment needs.
- Communicates project plans, progress, and outcomes with internal staff, clients, and customers.
- Collaborates professionally with external contractors and ensures compliance with codes and standards.
- Uses a computerized management system to record work progress, maintain accurate documentation, and meet reporting deadlines.
- Prepares work areas, gathers materials, safely operates and maintains tools & company vehicle, and cleans up after project completion.
- Sets and achieves individual goals and contributes to department objectives.
- Demonstrates strong communication, versatility, follow through, and customer focus.
- Upholds professionalism, timeliness, accuracy, and a positive company image.
- Adheres to all company and industry safety standards.

Requirements
Education/Experience/Training Requirements
- 10 or more years of experience as a licensed electrician required.
- Experience working with medium voltage systems required.
- Experience in commercial industrial electrical work desired
- Experience in installation, service, and/or maintenance of HVACR and Commercial Food Service Equipment preferred.
Licensing Requirements
- Licensed Electrician- Formal recognition by appropriate trade organization of journeyman Electrician status in the State of WI
- Valid class D driver's license and commercial insurability required.
- Federal Medical Card to transport large commercial trailers a plus.
Skills/Abilities Requirements
- Strong problem-solving, mechanical, and analytical skills.
- Knowledge of state and federal electrical codes and ability to recognize occupational hazards and necessary precautions.
- Proficient and safe use of electrical trade tools, equipment, materials, and methods (e.g., motor starters, frequency drives, multimeters, amprobes).
- Ability to read and interpret complex manuals, wiring schematics, circuit diagrams, blueprints, and code.
- Ability to design, lay out, and develop material lists for repairs, maintenance, and installations.
- Strong planning, organization, prioritization, and task management skills
- Ability to follow instructions and meet deadlines.
- Able to perform effectively in high stress, fast paced environments.
- Skilled in operating aerial lift equipment (scissor lifts, boom lifts).
- Basic computer proficiency and ability to learn new software quickly.
- Ability to work independently or collaboratively as part of a team.
- Strong work habits, including punctuality, accountability, thoroughness, and resourcefulness.
- Ability to travel to job sites 100% of the time.
- Ability to work a non-standard schedule including emergency on-call, nights, weekends, and holidays.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
- Ability to read, write and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
- Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers and other employees of the organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
REASONING ABILITY
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Physical Demands
Stationary Position Must be able to remain in a stationary position for 2-4 hours while traveling to and working on jobsites.
Move Regularly walks through indoor and outdoor jobsites, including uneven surfaces.
Operate Frequently uses commercial vehicles, power tools, and mobile devices; occasionally uses computers and office equipment. Requires repetitive finger motion, hand dexterity, elbow bending and prolong outward and upward arm extension.
Ascend/Descend Frequently required to ascend/descend stairs and ladders to access all areas of equipment and jobsites including rooftops.
Positions self Frequently required to bend, stoop and access small, confined spaces.
Communicate Frequently communicates with internal and external customers using spoken word and the ability to perceive the natural sounds of normal speaking levels. Must be able to exchange accurate information through oral and written communication and make fine discriminations in sound. Must be able to communicate information and ideas so others will understand.
Observe/Inspect Uses visual acuity at near, far, and peripheral distances, and must be able to adjust focus. Frequently uses vision to operate vehicles, tools, equipment, and to read technical information.
Transport Frequently lifts, pushes, or carries up to 50 pounds and occasionally more than 75 pounds.
Exposed to May work near moving mechanical parts and is frequently exposed to loud noise, vibration, dust, low light conditions, and extreme temperatures, including outdoor weather. Must be able to wear required PPE for the full shift.
