Job Description
About the Role
We are seeking a Robotics Mechanical Design Engineering Intern to support the development of our next-generation robotic manufacturing platform. This internship offers hands-on exposure to precision robotics, mechanical design, and automated manufacturing systems in a fast-paced startup environment. You'll work closely with experienced engineers across mechanical design, electrical engineering, controls, vision systems, and manufacturing. This is a learning-focused role designed to provide real-world engineering experience while contributing meaningfully to active projects.
If you're excited about robotics, precision engineering, and learning by doing, we'd love to hear from you.
What You'll Do:
Assist in the design and development of mechanical components, mechanisms, end effectors, and robotic subsystems.
Support prototype builds, testing, and iteration to evaluate performance and design feasibility.
Create and update CAD models, assemblies, drawings, and basic documentation.
Participate in hands-on fabrication, assembly, and testing in our in-house lab and machine shop.
Collaborate cross-functionally with engineers to understand how mechanical systems integrate with controls, vision, and manufacturing processes.
Help document test results, design changes, and lessons learned.
What You'll Need:
Currently pursuing a B.S. or M.S. in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field.
Successfully completed at least one prior engineering internship or co-op program
Familiarity with mechanical design fundamentals and basic CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or similar).
Interest in robotics, automation, or precision mechanical systems.
Willingness to learn, take feedback, and work hands-on with hardware.
Strong attention to detail and basic technical documentation skills.
Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and ask questions when needed.
Bonus Points:
Exposure to robotics, automation, or manufacturing environments.
Experience with prototyping, machining, or fabrication through coursework, internships, or personal projects.
Familiarity with GD&T fundamentals.
Interest in precision engineering, optics, or electromechanical systems.
Automate your job search with Sonara.
Submit 10x as many applications with less effort than one manual application.
