Job Description
Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Systems Engineer - HVAC-R & Kitchen Equipment with expertise in HVAC-R (Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration), boiler-based systems, and high-end commercial kitchen equipment to support the design, operation, and optimization of mechanical systems across convenience store locations. The ideal candidate will bring a strong understanding of energy efficiency, system reliability, and regulatory compliance in fast-paced, small-format retail environments with foodservice operations. Will have been involved in the oversight of multi-site facilities and equipment - maintaining and diagnosing equipment issues.
NOTE: This is an IN-OFFICE opportunity only, located in the SH 288 and Hwy 518 area.

The essential job functions include but are not limited to:
- Design, evaluate, and optimize HVAC-R, boiler, and kitchen equipment systems for convenience stores
- Conduct load calculations, system sizing, and energy modeling to ensure optimal performance
- Oversee installation, commissioning, and maintenance of mechanical and kitchen systems across multiple store locations
- Collaborate with contractors, vendors, and internal teams to ensure system integration and code compliance
- Troubleshoot and resolve performance issues in HVAC, refrigeration, heating, and kitchen equipment (e.g., vent hoods)
- Develop and maintain preventive maintenance programs and standard operating procedures
- Ensure compliance with ASHRAE, NFPA, OSHA, NSF, and local building and health codes
- Prepare technical reports, specifications, and documentation for internal and external stakeholders
- It is an essential function of this job for the employee to work in office/in the employee's assigned work site. No remote work is available

The position requirements include but are not limited to:
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering (master's preferred)
- PE license (Professional Engineer) or ability to obtain within 12 months
- 5+ years of experience in HVAC-R, boiler systems, and commercial kitchen equipment
- Proven experience in overseeing operations across multiple facilities, including equipment management and site coordination
- Strong background in maintenance planning, execution, and troubleshooting of mechanical and electrical systems
- Ability to diagnose equipment issues and implement timely corrective actions to minimize downtime
- Proficiency in data analysis to monitor performance trends and predict potential operational problems
- Familiarity with preventive and predictive maintenance strategies
- Quarterly travel, statewide, overnight
- Proven experience with convenience stores, quick-service restaurants, or small-format food retail
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, and HVAC design software (e.g., Trane Trace, Carrier HAP)
- Strong knowledge of building automation systems (BAS/BMS) and controls
- Familiarity with walk-in coolers, freezers, hood ventilation systems, grease management, and kitchen exhaust systems
- Excellent communication and project management skills
- Compensation commensurate with experience
