Job Description
Role Summary:Quantum Signal AI is looking for a Mechatronics Engineering Intern for summer 2026. The Mechatronics team is responsible for the design, fabrication, assembly, documentation, simulation, and testing of mechanical and electronic systems in an R&D environment. As an intern you will work with multidisciplinary teams across various projects. Great candidates will have a broad mechanical understanding and experience with CAD modeling, simulation, assembly, fabrication, and basic electrical systems. Location:We are located in Saline, Michigan. This position is in-person to encourage a culture of collaboration and mentorship.What You’ll Do:
- Design various mounts and mechanisms to support electromechanical systems using CAD software.
- Assist with hands-on fabrication, assembly, and testing of mechanical and electromechanical systems.
- Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, software, and research engineers as members of various project-focused engineering teams.
- Investigate and troubleshoot problems that might arise during fabrication, assembly, and installation.
- Participate in and contribute to design reviews.
- Perform electrical work including soldering, crimping, creating wire harnesses, etc.
- Create and collaborate with others on supporting documentation.
- Current enrollment as a sophomore, or above, in Mechanical/Mechatronics Engineering, or similar program.
- Proficiency in CAD software (Fusion 360, Catia, SolidWorks, etc.).
- Desire to work hands-on.
- Confidence and motivation to tackle new challenges and receive constructive feedback.
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and pursue creative approaches to technical problems.
- Solid understanding of core mechanical concepts.
- Willingness and interest in learning.
- Ability to apply existing technology to new problems.
- Ability to lift objects of various shapes, sizes, and weights (up to 30 lbs.).
- Ability to safely walk and stand for extended periods of time, reach (including above your head), bend, climb, push, pull, twist, squat, and kneel as necessary.
- Experience with basic hand tools, power tools, and fabrication.
- Work or hobby experience with reverse-engineering or analyzing existing electromechanical systems.
- Previous work/internship/co-op experience in a technical setting.
- Basic understanding of electrical concepts.
- Experience working as a member of multidisciplinary teams.
- Knowledge of 3D printing and related software.
