Overview
Provides high level clinical support in a multi-specialty center of the Yale Cancer Center (YCC) at Smilow Cancer Hospital. Under limited supervision and exercising independent judgment and initiative, assist with the coordination of outpatient clinical activities of the team.
Schedule: Full-time, 37.5 hrs. Early mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays may be required in rotation. Recess period required
Required Skills and Abilities
Required Skill/Ability 1: Proven ability to coordinate multiple tasks in a fast-paced medical office with a calm and pleasant personality.
Required Skill/Ability 2: Demonstrated knowledge of medical assisting standards and principles and knowledge of operational processes in a medical setting.
Required Skill/Ability 3: Highly motivated team player with strong communication and interpersonal skills with an emphasis on excellent customer service in dealing with both physicians and patients.
Required Skill/Ability 4: Strong administrative, organizational skills and computer data entry skills. Strong attention to detail. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Required Skill/Ability 5: References must indicate an excellent record of attendance and reliability.
Required Licenses or Certifications: Certification by the American Association of Medical Assistants or American Registry of Medical Assistants (or ability to get certification/registration within 90 days of employment).
Principal Responsibilities
- Instructs and acts as a source of information for a minimum of three Medical Assistants. 2. Serves as a source of information for on‐going training and support issues pertaining to section. Identifies areas for improvement in workflow, systems, coverage and continuity of care issues. 3. Effectively and appropriately communicates recommendations and suggestions to management. Ensures clinic is running at optimal efficiency and staffed appropriately. Provides guidance and instruction to medical assistants on on‐going clinic operations. 4. Ensures staffing levels are sufficient, all examination rooms and clinical areas are appropriately stocked, all equipment is properly maintained and in compliance with requirements. Determines appropriate inventory levels and maintain levels in anticipation of clinic needs. 5. Selects, sets up, and maintains medicals supplies and equipment. Serves as a resource for medical staff and clinicians in order to resolve patient conflict and other complex and challenging care issues. 6. Prepares patients for continuing care after treatment and ensures continuity of treatment plan. Schedules and coordinates patient and test appointments, as needed. Provides alternative solutions to problems and offer resolutions to scheduling issues and conflicts. 7. Provides physical care and carries out therapeutic and medical regimens. Obtains patient histories and medical information. Assesses, reports and records vital signs and measurements. Collects specimens. 8. Observes patients for physical or emotional changes. Report observations. Facilitates timely processing of referrals for internal and external vendors. 9. Coordinates and oversees preceptorship, mentoring, orientation and training for all new medical assistants within the section. Develops training curriculum. Oversees chart preparation and adherence to visit type guidelines in order to support and improve efficiency for each clinician's schedule. 10. Enters registry data as required and on a timely basis. May provide training and oversight to other medical assistants as registries continue to develop. May provide additional administrative support, including front desk coverage, as directed. Required Education and Experience Six years of related work experience, four of them in the same job family at the next lower level, and high school level education; or four years of related work experience and an Associate's degree; or little or no work experience and a Bachelor's degree in a related field; or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
