A Brief Overview
Provides timely and accurate information to visitors and other guests or who call on the telephone to request information. Must have the ability to adapt to a variety of responsibilities. Duties include but not limited to pre-certifying with insurance companies, filing, scheduling, assist with office-based procedures, communicating with other members of the healthcare team, maintaining records using the Electronic Medical Record system. This position may assist providers with procedures in office, perform administrative and certain clinical duties under the direction of physician or advanced practice provider. Administrative duties may include scheduling appointments and maintaining medical records. Clinical duties may include taking and recording vital signs and medical histories and preparing patients for examination.
What you will do
- Answer telephones, direct calls, and take messages for follow-up: process patient requests and relay accurate medical information.
- Collect, enter, and verify patient information, including regulatory compliance data and update patient communication preferences.
- Schedule patient appointments according to provider preferences and templates.
- Collect co-pays, verify insurance eligibility, and obtain prior authorization (PA) when necessary.
- Prepare patient charts for appointments and navigate electronic health records for completed tests.
- Greet patients, provide a positive first impression, and show patients to examination rooms.
- Operate and troubleshoot office and medical equipment, including diagnostic tools for routine lab tests.
- Assist physician or advanced practice providers by preparing patients for examinations and treatments: assist with patient care as needed.
- Interview patients to obtain medical information and measure their vital signs, weight and height.
- Record patients' medical history, vital statistics and test results in medical records.
- Maintain inventory and order medical, lab and office supplies and equipment.
- Clean and prepare instruments for sterilization and maintain a neat and clean environment for patient exams.
- Contact medical facilities or departments to schedule patients for tests or admissions.
- Communicate with customers, staff and other individuals to answer questions, explain information and address complaints.
Qualifications
- H.S. Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) Required
- Healthcare Assistant or Medical Office Assistant Certification Preferred
- 1-3 years experience in a medical office Preferred
- Knowledge of the information and techniques needed to understand human injuries, diseases, and deformities. This includes symptoms, treatment alternatives, drug properties and interactions, and preventive health-care measures.
- Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
- Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records, accurate note taking, and other office procedures and terminology.
- Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
- The ability to communicate information and ideas in speaking clearly so others will understand and identify, understand the speech of another person. Ability to convey information effectively.
- The ability to see details at close range (within a few feet of the observer).
- Basic Cardiac Life Support & First Aid- American Heart Association within 60 Days Required
Qualifications:
CPOE "Certified Physician Order Entry" training must be completed within 60 days of hire.
