About the Role:

Job Summary

Participates in medication safety activities for the acute care hospitals within the Northeast Georgia Health System. This includes identification and investigation of reported medication variances and adverse drug events for root causes and development of prevention/mitigation strategies. Analyst will also support medication safety initiatives including clinician education, participation in medication safety related committees and monitoring for compliance.

Minimum Job Qualifications

  • Licensure or other certifications: Georgia Pharmacist License required.

  • Educational Requirements: Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an accredited school of pharmacy.

  • Minimum Experience: Three (3) years of hospital pharmacy experience.

Essential Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Organizational Liaison. Serves as a member of health system committees / teams focused on patient safety and medication error reduction. Participate in Medication Safety Committee to review medication safety practices, safety reporting program information and discuss system changes.

  • Quality Processes and Risk Reduction. Collect, review and analyze medication variances for all acute care hospitals in the health system to identify root causes and recommend error prevention and mitigation strategies. Rounds in nursing units and in pharmacy sites to identify risk areas and to gather staff perceptions and concerns about medication safety. Reviews and investigates adverse drug reactions from reported events as well as automated tools / reports. Supports the safe use of medications by participating in system initiatives as needed.

  • Legal and Regulatory Compliance. Supports compliance with accreditation standards and with federal, state, and local regulations related to medication-use safety. Monitors compliance with FDA Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategies (REMS) programs.

  • Staff Competency and Education. Develops, reviews, and participates in medication safety training for new staff, yearly competencies and as requested. Disseminates ISMP newsletters to promote awareness of externally reported medication safety issues. Promotes medication safety through feedback (via presentations, newsletters, etc.) on the outcomes of changes in medication safety processes.
