Position Overview:

It gives you day-to-day involvement in actual projects selected to match your interests and abilities. A supervisor and mentor will provide you with regular assessments and performance feedback throughout your internship. This is to ensure you get the most from your experience and help you decide if a potential career with Motiva is right for you.
Following completion of a successful internship, you have the potential to be offered a returning internship or full-time role. Rotating Equipment:
As a Rotating Equipment engineering intern, you’ll be a member of an operating area production team that works within a cross a functional team to address both tactical and strategic reliability improvement items. This group is fascinated with defects, learning why they occur, developing or modifying practices that prevent future defects, and applying our learning's to similar equipment. Your responsibilities may include:
Providing technical assurance overview and support for rotating equipment systems and documentation to ensure safe, reliable, and cost-effective operation and maintenance
Help ensure that all new and existing rotating equipment installations are completed in accordance with applicable standards
Seek to attack underlying causes and eliminate reactive-natured work
Production Technical Support:
As a PTSE intern, you will provide coordination within Refinery Production Areas through project management, problem solving, small project execution, threat identification and risk assessment, engineering support to operations and maintenance, and turnaround support. The goal of this internship is to help you develop technical expertise in Static Equipment, Piping Systems, Pressure Vessels, Materials and Corrosion, and associated inspection techniques. This role interfaces with Engineers, Operators, and Maintenance Personnel. Key Responsibilities may include:
Assist in the design and implementation of expense projects and small capital projects related to Health, Safety, and Environmental threats, reliability threats within a Production Area.
Provide Engineering support for reactive maintenance and unplanned work, as required.
Champion Management of Change (MOC) by helping with cross-discipline.
Participate in both large and small-scale investigations focused on Health, Safety, Environmental, and Reliability Incidents.
Provide Engineering support to the Turnaround Organization during the planning and scope development for upcoming turnarounds.
Provide Engineering support during Turnaround Execution, including project support and reactive issues.
Maintenance Engineering:
As a Maintenance Engineering intern, your assignment may contribute to business activities through the following:
Understanding of overall Major Maintenance Planning Process
Provide engineering support for scope development, planning, and work execution of Major Maintenance projects/events
Participate in RCFA, rework, and quality investigations
Develop Opportunity Proposals and Investment Proposals for small capital projects
Lead the design and implementation of small capital projects related to HSE threats, reliability threats, compliance issues, and energy improvements
Experience and Qualifications:
Required Education and Experience:
3.0 cumulative GPA
Pursuing a B.S in Mechanical Engineering
Basic computer skills, MS Windows, MS office and MS Excel
Basic computation and technical skills
Time management skills
Good communication skills, both written and oral
Candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, an alien admitted as permanent resident, refugee, asylee, temporary resident, or an individual who possesses valid work authorization. Preferred Education and Experience:
Previous internship experience is a plus
Proven leadership and/or participation in extracurricular activities preferred
Other work experience not related to position/area of study will be taken into consideration
Physical Requirements:
Include physical abilities that are essential for performance of duties
Sitting, standing, walking, lifting, carrying, reaching, pushing, and pulling …ascend and descend ladders, scaffolds, stairs and work in confined spaces and in proximity to loud equipment… lifting up to 50lbs, standing 50% of the time
Must pass annual respirator fit testing, due to safety sensitive nature of job
Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in designated areas (respirator, hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, heeled boots, and hearing protection)
Ability to reach all work areas in the plant (i.e. climb ladders, negotiate catwalks, handle heights to 50 feet, etc.)
