Job Description
OVERVIEW:
The Natural Science Collections Intern will support the care, organization, and documentation of specimens in both the natural science and paleontology collections. Working closely with the curators, the intern will gain hands-on experience in proper collections storage methods, conservation practices, and database management using Axiell EMu. This position provides an excellent opportunity for students interested in biology, geology, or museum studies to learn about collections care in a professional museum environment.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Accession and document relevant geology, biology, and conservation information for specimens.
- Create archival labels and update specimen information.
- Photograph specimens to highlight morphological characters.
- Construct storage cradles and assist with specimen rehousing.
- Update and maintain specimen records in Axiell EMu.
- Provide support for program or exhibit needs by pulling specimens and preparing related content.
REQUIRMENTS:
- 1 year of education completed pursuing a degree in Biology, Geology, Museum studies, or a related field.
- Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Outlook experience required
- Experience with photography preferred
- Some knowledge of taxonomy and anatomical terminology preferred
ADA Requirements
- Intern should be able to lift 25 pounds and should be open to helping move collection pieces if need be.
