Job Description

The Good Samaritan Home of Quincy is looking for a Nursing Unit Secretary to join our growing team!

Job Summary: The primary purpose of your job position is to perform clerical support in an efficient manner in accordance with established procedures and as directed by your supervisor.

Hourly Pay Range: $15.45 - $17.45

Responsibilities

  • Keep track on your assigned neighborhood of bed transfers, new admits, discharges, hospitalization, and deaths on a daily basis.
  • Help with new admits and transfers.
  • Communicate with nursing personnel and other department personnel.
  • Coordinate transportation needs for all residents using GSH vehicles for doctor, dental, hearing, optical, procedures, surgery, emergency room visits.
  • Give direction/information to visitors, guests, residents, sales representatives, etc. while maintaining resident confidentiality.
  • Operate a computer as directed.
  • Follow all established safety procedures and precautions when operating office equipment.
  • Replenish supplies in work areas as necessary.
  • Keep work area neat and clean.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all pertinent resident care information to assure resident rights are protected.
  • Observe and follow all facility safety policies and procedures.
  • Perform unscheduled administrative tasks as directed.
  • Attend mandatory in-services.
  • Scan and attach medical information into the computer, maintaining confidentiality, ensuring the information is under the correct residents file. 
  • Assisting residents to church, home activities, beauty shop etc. as necessary. 
  • File medical records into residents shadow files and over-flow files. 

Qualifications

  • Must possess a high school diploma.
  • Must be at least 18 years of old.
  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and comprehend the English language.
  • Must possess sight/hearing senses or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately so that the requirements of this position can be fully met.
  • Must possess the ability to deal harmoniously with staff, residents, family, visitors, government personnel, public, etc.
  • Must be able to cope with mental and emotional stress of the position.
  • Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action and remain calm during emergency situations.
  • Must possess a pleasant personality and be able to work harmoniously with other personnel.
