The Opportunity

The Occupational Health Registered Nurse reports directly to the Senior Manager of Enterprise Clinical Services for Occupational Health. This position works collaboratively with Occupational Health staff from all Mass General Brigham affiliates as an integral part of the occupational health clinical delivery team. They also collaborate with the Occupational Health leadership team and Occupational Health Site Directors to ensure clinical standards are achieved, trends are identified, and issues are resolved or referred to leadership.

As an Occupational Health RN, they utilize clinical experience and occupational health guidelines while applying active listening skills to efficiently and effectively manage occupational health needs of employees and staff working in the Mass General Brigham organization. This includes providing clinical assessment and management for a range of occupational health screening, reportable disease, and work clearance needs.

Job Summary

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provides clinical evaluation and care through a centralized and system-wide Mass General Brigham delivery model.
  • Routinely manages pre-placement screening and documentation needs including, but not limited to, pre-screening documentation of vaccinations, TB screening, and coordinating onsite appointments at specific Mass General Brigham Occupational Health clinics as needed.
  • Assists new hires with various ways to obtain and submit required documentation, including, but not limited to, counseling regarding pre-placement preparation for onsite appointments as needed.
  • Responsible for providing work clearance, except for employees actively being managed in Occupational Health for a work-related injury. This includes determining if clearance can be provided.
  • Consults and educates employee's manager and HR Business Partner if accommodation is needed for return to work.
  • Manages infectious disease evaluations and reportable disease reports.. This may include providing surge capacity with outbreaks, during times of increased community case rates, and/or staffing shortages.
  • May be responsible for providing services in connection with other Occupational Health programs, that may include assessment using clinical criteria and the ordering of clinical tests and other diagnostics, providing clinical and administrative information to employees, appropriate referrals to other clinical providers, case management of Human Resource related issues involving workplace accommodations/restrictions, and other return to work issues.
  • Responsible for providing effective, consistent, and comprehensive employee education, counseling, and direction.
  • Provides after hours on call-coverage when Occupational Health clinics are closed, on a rotating schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Consistently provides a high degree of evidence-based quality care. Responsible for timely, comprehensive, and accurate clinical documentation that meets the established practice criteria using documentation templates and clinical guidelines. Utilizes multiple databases to support departmental compliance and reporting needs. Ensures the security, confidentiality, and privacy of protected health and employee personal information.
  • Participates in planning and implementing Occupational Health programs and providing selected health services independently or collaboratively with other members of the occupational health staff. Is expected to participate in orientation and training of other staff as requested.
  • Remote work with requirement on onsite coverage as needed.

Qualifications

What You'll Bring

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN)
  • Active and unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) licensure for the State of Massachusetts.
  • 3+ years of experience in Occupational Health, Urgent Care and/or ambulatory care.
  • Must be willing to obtain RN license for New Hampshire if not already licensed in NH. MGB to cover cost of initial license.
  • Ability to work off-hours (evenings and weekends) and holiday on-call schedule on a rotating basis.

Preferences:

  • Infection Control experience.

  • Ability to perform within a high-functioning, effective and empowered team in an environment that requires collaboration and meeting defined deliverables/metrics each day.
  • Works well with interprofessional team members.

Schedule and Work Model

  • Full-Time (40 hours).
  • Hybrid work model: Approximately 2 days/week on-site (Boston and greater Boston clinic locations) from 7:30am-4pm and approximately 3 days/week remote WAH from 8am-4:30pm.
  • Provides after-hours on-call coverage when clinics are closed, on a rotating schedule including evenings, weekends and holidays.
  • On remote workdays, employees must use a stable, secure, and compliant workstation in a quiet environment. Teams Video is required and must be accessed using MGB-provided equipment.
