JOB TITLE:              LAW CLERK IIFLSAEXEMPTGRADE:                    16SALARY:                    $68,850                                      Law school graduates pending Illinois licensure:  $59,364LOCATION:           THIRD MUNICIPAL DISTRICT 2121 EUCLID AVENUE, ROLLING MEADOWS, ILLINOISJOB SUMMARY AND DUTIES: The Law Clerk II reports to the Presiding Judge of the Division or Municipal District of the Circuit of Cook County or as otherwise assigned. The position requires a strong commitment to access to justice, a highly professional demeanor,and sound judgment.The Law Clerk:
  • Assists judges in resolving matters before the court and in courtroomproceedings.
  • Researchesandanalyzeslegal issues presented for brief or argumentbased on statutesandcase law.
  • Searches for and studies legal records,documents,and law to obtain information and provide analysisapplicable to case under consideration.
  • Prepareswrittenmemoranda andsummaries based on researchand analysis of legalissues.
  • Assists in draftingand proofreading opinions, administrative andjudicialorders,professionalcorrespondence, public information documents, andcourt rules.
  • Consults with judgesregardinginterpretationand application of law to issuesandcases.
  • Monitors pendinglegislationasneeded.
  • Assists outside counsel with litigation in which judgesorcourtemployeesare parties.
  • Assists with othermiscellaneousmattersas required by the judges or supervisor.
  • Maintains confidentiality while performingduties.
  • Performssuch other duties asmay be assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor'sdegree, Juris Doctordegree,and active license to practice law in Illinois.
  • Knowledge of methods of legalresearchand analysis of applicablelaw.
  • Experience with computer applications for word processing,spreadsheet, database, andlegalresearch/writing.
  • Excellentwrittenand oral communication skills andorganizationalabilities.
  • Ability to work with others in a professionalandcollegialmannerandcollaborate with legalandnon-legalpersonnel.

WORKINGCONDITIONS/PHYSICALREQUIREMENTS:

  • On a continuousbasis, sit at a desk for long periods in front of a computerscreen
  • Intermittently twist to reachequipment or supplies surrounding desk
  • Perform simple grasping and fine manipulation
  • Strength to liftfiles weighing up to20 pounds
  • Use telephoneand computer keyboard on a daily basis
