Job Description Summary:
The Paramedic provides First Aid, Advanced Life Support (ALS) and or Basic Life Support (BLS) to victims of illness or injury usually within a pre-hospital setting. This position works within established standards of care and in accordance with the current Maryland Medical Protocols for Emergency Medical Services Providers. The Paramedic operates assigned emergency vehicles to respond to emergency calls and to transport injured or sick persons to medical facilities in accordance with applicable Maryland laws and standards. Job Description:
Salary Range: $44,941.00-$121,736.00
BUDGETED SALARY: $67,000.00/ANNUALLY WITH BUILT-IN OVERTIME
- SIGNING BONUS: $5000.00
- Contingent upon successful completion of the probationary period
Essential Duties:
- Communicates with dispatchers or treatment center personnel to provide information about situation, to arrange reception of patients, or to receive instructions for further treatment;
- Maintains vehicles, medical and communication equipment to ensure they are in proper working order, replenishes first aid equipment and supplies with particular attention to medication, fluids and other material subject to expiration; Operates equipment, such as electrocardiograms (EKGs), external defibrillators, or bag valve mask resuscitators, in advanced life support environments; Administers first aid treatment or life support care to sick or injured persons in prehospital settings;
- Administers drugs, orally or by injection, or performs intravenous procedures under a physician's direction;
- Assesses nature and extent of illness or injury to establish and prioritize medical procedures;
- Completes all patient care documentation prior to the end of the shift;
- Responds to Quality Assurance (QA) messages in timely manner;
- Observes, records, and reports to physician the patient's condition or injury, the treatment provided, and reactions to drugs or treatment;
- Immobilizes patient for placement on stretcher and ambulance transport, using backboard or other spinal immobilization device;
- Decontaminates vehicle interior following treatment of patient with infectious disease, reports such cases to proper authorities;
- Operates assigned vehicles in safe manner and in accordance with applicable traffic laws;
- Coordinates work with other emergency medical team members or police or fire department personnel.
Years of Experience:
Two (2) years of emergency care experience
Years of Supervisory Experience: N/A
Education:
High School Diploma or GED
Certifications, Licensures, and Examinations:
- Maryland Licensed Paramedic (Required);
- Emergency Medical Technician - Intermediate Certification (Required); Certification in Hazmat Operations (CHO);
- Current ALS Certification (Required);
- Valid Certification in Emergency Medical Dispatch;
- Rescue Technician Certified; Certified National Registered Paramedic (CNRP)
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to make decisions and the use of independent judgement;
- Organizational skills including the capacity to anticipate issues and prioritize tasks;
- Ability to manage multiple priorities or projects;
- Knowledge of principles of quality patient care;
- Knowledge of standards of confidentiality and ethical practice;
- Comprehensive knowledge and skills in Advanced and Basic Life Support; Ability to complete appropriate patient care reports in a timely manner;
- Skilled listener, ability to practice actively listening;
- Ability to operate emergency vehicles in a safe and reliable manner;
- Ability to provide appropriate pre-hospital care during calls for service;
- Ability to load and lift and or carry patient transport devices under all conditions; Ability to maintain composure, even in very difficult situations;
- Ability to manage conflict and tactfully handle complaints and difficult situations;
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.

Must comply with all Federal (OSHA), State of Maryland (MOSH), safety regulations and applicable Harford County safety policies, procedures, or manual as required for this position.

LICENSE & CERTIFICATION:
A valid Class C non-commercial drivers license with no more than three (3) points.
