General Description / Primary Purpose
This position involves performing comprehensive parking services for the campus, including enforcing parking regulations, managing advanced virtual parking solutions, and ensuring the proper maintenance of parking facilities. The Parking Services Technician is responsible for providing a safe, efficient, and user-friendly parking environment for the campus community. This role requires effective communication and collaboration with team members and various departments to ensure seamless operations and high-quality service delivery. The Specialist will utilize state-of-the-art technology, such as License Plate Recognition (LPR) systems, mobile handheld enforcement devices, and vehicle immobilization tools, to enforce parking regulations and enhance customer experience. Additionally, the technician will play a crucial role in maintaining the functionality and aesthetics of parking facilities, conducting regular inspections, and promptly addressing any deficiencies.
Job Function
- Employees have a proficient understanding of all virtual parking solutions offered by the University, including License Plate Recognition (LPR) systems, mobile handheld enforcement machines, handheld radios, and immobilization devices. They can effectively articulate the uses and navigation of these products and services.
- Responsible for enforcing proper parking regulations by driving a state vehicle equipped with LPR cameras and/or a golf cart to ensure compliance with parking regulations.
- Efficiently enforces all designated parking areas on campus using LPR software to ensure compliance with parking regulations.
- Effectively identifies vehicles in violation of parking regulations and utilizes handheld enforcement devices and LPR software to issue parking citations.
- Communicate with team members via two-way radio devices to coordinate enforcement activities
- Applies vehicle immobilization devices to automobiles with outstanding citations
- Inspects parking garages for proper signage, lighting and maintenance and reports deficiencies to enforcement supervisor or coordinator.
- Responsible for completing enforcement cage duties such as offloading handheld units, sanitizing commonly touched areas in enforcement vehicles and/or golf carts, and stocking all enforcement vehicles and/or golf carts with necessary materials for parking enforcement and immobilization violations.
- Assists parking service supervisors with training parking patrollers in enforcing parking regulations and using enforcement devices.
Marginal Functions
- Cleaning and maintaining signage, including installing and removing signs, and replacing hardware as needed
- Occasionally assists with the setup and takedown of barricades for special events
- Completing detailed accident reports in the event of an incident and immediately reporting the incident to supervisors
- Reporting all hazards and spills, such as broken wheel stops, potholes, worn signs, or chemical spills, to supervisors
- Transporting golf carts and enforcement vehicles to designated maintenance facilities
- Performing other duties as assigned, which may require adjusting the normal schedule to cover for other employees' absences, including opening at 7am or closing at 6pm
- During declared campus emergencies, this position may be required to perform specific job-related duties at a designated off-campus location or place of residence.

While the Parking Services Specialist does not have direct supervisory responsibilities, they may be required to provide guidance and support to new team members or assist in training sessions as needed.
Supervision Received
The Parking Services Specialist reports to the Parking Services Coordinator or above. The supervisor reviews the specialist’s work for accuracy, compliance with established procedures, and adherence to departmental standards. Regular feedback and performance evaluations are conducted to ensure continuous improvement and professional development.
Level of Public Contact
The Parking Services Specialist frequently interacts with the campus community, including students, faculty, staff, and visitors. This role requires excellent customer service skills to address inquiries, provide information, and resolve parking-related issues in a professional and courteous manner. The technician serves as a representative of the parking services department and must always maintain a positive and helpful demeanor. Additionally, the specialist may be required to assist with special events, providing guidance and support to ensure smooth parking operations.
