Job Description
High-Level SummaryWe are seeking experienced Part 107-certified Drone Pilots to support powerline inspection projects across transmission and distribution environments. This is a contract position requiring extensive experience flying drones in utility environments, with a minimum of 1,500 flight hours. The role involves traveling to project sites, operating drones for powerline inspections, managing data collection in the field, and ensuring all safety and regulatory standards are met. Contractors must be highly skilled, proactive, and ready to begin work immediately.Key Responsibilities
- Conduct powerline inspections (both transmission and distribution) using drones such as DJI, Autel, Skydio, or Parrot.
- Execute flights safely and efficiently, adhering to FAA Part 107 regulations and utility safety standards.
- Maintain accurate flight logs and inspection data, including QC checks and validation of captured data.
- Identify and resolve issues such as missed poles or incomplete datasets before leaving the field.
- Travel extensively (multi-state assignments possible)
- Operate and transport equipment, which may include trucks, trailers, and side-by-sides.
- Communicate clearly with project managers, team members, and clients via phone, email, and digital tools.
- FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate (required)
- Minimum of 1,500 flight hours in transmission and distribution (T&D) environments (required)
- Demonstrated experience flying powerlines (both transmission and distribution preferred)
- Hands-on experience with drone platforms such as DJI, Autel, Skydio, or Parrot
- Proven ability to perform data management and QC, not just flight operations
- Strong travel readiness, with the ability to work away from home for several months at a time
- Valid driver’s license with clean driving record; ability to operate truck, trailer, and side-by-side vehicles
- Strong communication skills and basic computer proficiency
- Must pass applicable background checks
- Contractors must provide their 107 certificate number and resume upon application
- Employment Type: Contractor
- Duration: Initial contract up to 10 weeks, with potential for long-term extension
- Compensation: $600 – $1,000 per day, depending on experience
- Start Date: ASAP
- Location: Remote job. Travel required (multi-state projects possible; details discussed during interview)
