Job Description
JOB TITLE: Part-time Van Driver
CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt, Part Time
DEPARTMENT: Adult Services
REPORTS TO: Director, Older Adult Center
POSITION OVERVIEW: Under the supervision of the Older Adult Center Director, the Van Driver
is accountable for providing transportation services for the participants of the Adult Day Service
program from the Fulton Center Site to Hudson Guild's Elliott Center.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or equivalent. Possess a valid New York State CDL
Driver's license with driving experience in New York City and be certified annually in CPR and
First Aid. Must be available to work on either Thanksgiving Day or Christmas Day, to be decided in
consultation with the Director, as well as other holidays and during special events, as necessary. Flexible schedule of 8AM-4PM; will work 20 hours per week.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Conversational-level Spanish preferred. Must have patience and
good people skills.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
● Provides transportation services to senior citizens and adult day participants associated with
the agency at designated pick-up locations
● Returns seniors and participants at designated drop-off at the end of each designated activity
● Assists in scheduling and routing of vehicles
● Transports other goods when necessary
● Assists riders when entering or exiting vehicles
● Performs daily safety check of vehicle and keeps the interior cleaned
● Reports problems related to routing, scheduling or vehicle breakdowns and malfunctions
keeping a log of vehicle service and repairs
● Reports any accidents or relevant mishaps that occur while driving
● Maintains a daily record of mileage and the purpose of each trip by the van
● Maintain knowledge of local area street and highway systems, motor vehicle laws and
regulations, safe/defensive driving techniques, the needs of the elderly, especially those with
cognitive and physical impairments
● Be aware of programmatic targets and goals and work towards these in all activities provided
to participants
● Collect and enter required data in a timely manner
● Engage in professional development and apply learned knowledge towards using
evidence-based best practices
● Engage in data analysis processes conducted by the Evaluation and Quality team to determine
strengths and areas for improvement and follow action steps in the Continuous Quality
Improvement (CQI) process
● Assist in carrying out and participate in Community Building activities to support
organizational effectiveness and outreach
● Performs other related duties as assigned, especially during busier times of the year and special events
WORKING CONDITIONS: Understand a city map and follow directions; develop and maintain good
working relationships with co-workers, participants and their caregivers and supervisor.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Climb in and out of various types of multi-passenger vehicles such as
vans. Lift and/or transfer clients up to 200 lbs with assistance, as needed. Push occupied wheelchairs
with a total weight of up to 280 lbs.
EXPECTED HOURS/TYPICAL SHIFT:
COMPENSATION: $20 per hour
