Job Summary
Assists pharmacists and administrative staff in the provision of pharmaceutical care services. Responsible for participation in pharmacy operations, medication distribution, inventory control, Omnicell usage, and maintenance of personal technical competency. Technical skills required include expertise in Omnicell use and medication preparation. Additionally, provides exemplary customer service, contributes to the efficient operation and productivity of the Pharmacy Department, and displays the interest and motivation to achieve excellence in pharmacy practice in the institutional setting.Qualifications

Education:
High school graduate, enrolled in approved School/College of Pharmacy
License:
MA Pharmacy Intern license required
Experience:
Previous experience as a pharmacy intern in a hospital setting preferred but not required
Work Schedule:
Rotating shift including weekends and holidays
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Distribution Responsibility
Prepares pharmaceutical preparations in a quality manner under the direction of the pharmacist utilizing pharmacy software and hardware systems Performs Omnicell pharmacy functions Ensures functionality of barcode scanning Executes medication distribution Receives and stocks pharmaceuticals Prepares medications in unit dose packaging Fills code carts and emergency kits Completes billing procedures for stock requisitions for ancillary units Ensures integrity and compliance of unit medication rooms as needed Assesses and documents completion of medication recalls Responds to requests from health care providers at pharmacy window Triages telephone calls Demonstrates time management skills by prioritizing and completing duties Ensures proper use and care of all pharmacy equipment according to operating procedures and instructions Maintains the pharmacy in a clean and neat manner as determined by administrative team Performs additional tasks as delegated by pharmacists and administrative team
Inventory Responsibility
Ensures that drugs and supplies are available in the department and designated hospital care areas by maintaining appropriate inventories Participates in Omnicell inventory management Uses cost containment measures in ordering and maintaining pharmaceutical stock Facilitates the attainment and maintenance of 14 annual inventory turns Maintains inventory records as required by Pharmacy Department policy and law Ensures availability of unit dose products Facilitates the disposal of expired medications via the reverse distributor Appropriately disposes pharmaceutical waste Performs monthly inspection of pharmacy inventory to identify expired or damaged pharmaceuticals Performs additional tasks as delegated by pharmacists and administrative team

Identifies and reports circumstances which require further assessment to the pharmacy administration Maintains confidentiality of patient and departmental information Provides positive, supportive, and courteous communications to patients, families, visitors, and hospital personnel at all times Commits to functioning as an essential employee Completes project assignments from Management as needed.
Technical Growth Responsibility
Identifies own learning needs by seeking assistance from pharmacist and administrative team Attends department meetings and reads all minutes Documents maintenance of technical skills appropriate to pharmacy intern Successfully completes annual hospital required training Maintains Pharmacy Intern licensure and documentation of hours Assists in clinical programs as needed under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist

WORKING CONDITIONS
Typical hospital pharmacy environment. Works under constant time deadlines. Exposure to hazardous chemicals and other compounds found in typical pharmacy setting
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Moderate amount of stress in completing work assignments, meeting deadlines, and interacting with other healthcare professionals. Repetitive use of hands and fingers (i.e., use of computer keyboard) and labeling containers. Repetitive tasks are often performed with one hand only. Normal range of hearing and vision to perform work and communicate. Extended periods of standing, walking, and bending. Climbing of stairs and lifting/carrying material may be required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to work independently and handle stress appropriately. Ability to work cooperatively with other members of hospital and pharmacy staff.
