Position Summary
The Pharmacy Technician will provide support services to the pharmacists.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- The technician will be able to perform the following functions under immediate supervision of a pharmacist:
- Receive prescription from patients and obtain necessary information for profile and insurance billing.
- Enter patient and prescription information into the computer and produce a label for the prescription.
- Answer the phone and record refill authorization information.
- Call medical office to request refill authorization.
- Answer non -discretionary questions from patients, such as:
- Price quote
- Product availability
- Requests by patients if prescription has been called in and /or filed.
- Take refill requests from patients by phone or in person and product a refill label.
- Place order to suppliers for medications and supplies.
- Check in orders and log invoices.
- Return medication to shelf when pharmacist has finished checking prescription.
- Perform financial transaction at cash register.
- Assist customers with finding OTC products.
- Pre-packing and labeling drugs for subsequent use in prescription dispensing operations.
- Fill prescriptions with medications taken from the shelf stock bottles.
- Count and pour from stock bottles from individual prescriptions. This function is performed under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist and the accuracy of the prescription contents is checked and initialed by a licensed pharmacist.
- Reconstitutes-restoration of original form of medication previously altered for preservation and storage by addition of a specific quantity of distilled water or provided diluent requiring no calculation. The accuracy of the technician is checked and the work initialed by a licensed pharmacist.
- The supervising pharmacist will thoroughly instruct the pharmacy technician in the limitation of the functions he/she may perform.
- The pharmacy technician will wear a nametag, which clearly identifies his/her status working in the pharmacy and having contact with the general public.
- The pharmacy technician will perform his/bee duties within the limits of function set forth by the codes or regulations of the State of Washington and as supervised by the pharmacy director.
- A pharmacy technician may NOT perform the following functions:
- Counsel patients.
- Answer discretionary questions from patients.
- Accept new prescriptions over the phone from providers.
- Enter the pharmacy without a pharmacist on duty.
- Review DUR information or patient history for appropriateness of therapy.
Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. - The technician must be qualified to be licensed technician in the State of Washington.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
- The technician must speak English. Spanish or other languages are not required, but are strongly recommended.
- The technician must be willing to learn a new language.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
- The technician must be able to perform and comprehend basic mathematical calculations, which are required in pharmacy services.
REASONING ABILITY
- The technician must be able to use common sense to perform the essential duties and responsibilities listed above.
Education, Certificates, Licenses, Registrations, and Medical Screening
EDUCATION and TRAINING
- Completion of a formal academic program for pharmacy technician training or on-the job training program to gain certification by the Board of Pharmacy is necessary.
- A pharmacy technician certification and current license from the Washington State Board is required.
- A minimum of one-year experience working is require in a retail and/or clinic setting as a certified pharmacy technician.
Additional Requirements
- Annual influenza vaccine required. Only exception is for employees with a medical or religious exemption approved by Administration. Employees with an approved medical or religious exemption must wear a mask at all time during the flu season.
Work Environment
The pharmacy is a closed environment, where the staff is separated from the customers. The technician must be able to interact with coworkers, customers and other health care entities in person and over the phone.
Physical Requirements
The pharmacy technician must be able to stand for long periods of time, and be able to handle the stresses of interacting with customers.
