Job Description
JOB SUMMARY
The Senior Pharmacy Technician supports various aspects of pharmacy operations, including prescription order entry, claim adjudication, medication preparation and dispensing, distribution, non-sterile and sterile compounding, inventory management, and the use of automated pharmacy devices and equipment. This role also involves handling controlled substances, communicating with patients, and maintaining assigned work areas. The Senior Pharmacy Technician assesses the age-specific needs of patients and performs all responsibilities in compliance with Tampa General Hospital's mission, vision, and values, as well as state and federal regulations.
- High School Diploma or GED
- Registered Pharmacy Technician
- Minimum of 2 years of experience as a registered pharmacy technician in a relevant practice setting. Proficiency in the core systems and tools utilized within the practice setting.
Sterile compounding experience strongly preferred.
Utilizing aseptic technique and adhering to USP 797 guidelines, prepares parenteral products under the direct supervision of a Registered Pharmacist.
Able to complete appropriate calculations on product preparation after which pharmacist will validate before compounding/mixing.
Demonstrates ability to interpret and follow formulas for compounding properly.
Understands proper handling and disposal of hazardous drugs.
Operates and maintains equipment, including calibration.
Performs general cleaning and maintenance duties as directed for environmental quality assurance. Maintains appropriate and timely documentation.
Is familiar with, understands, and participates appropriately with the workflow process.
