Job Description

Ideal candidate will be located in or near the Des Moines metro area

Essential Functions:

  • Investigates and evaluates moderately complex physical damage claims and losses

  • Reviews the loss notice and policy to verify coverage, deductibles, loss payee/mortgagees and confirms that the loss occurred within the coverage period

  • Evaluates repair shop and independent appraiser estimates to determine accuracy, photos to determine if damages are consistent with loss or prior unrelated damages, and vehicle values and repair costs to establish repair ability versus total loss

  • Performs field inspections and prepares physical damage estimates

  • Resolves questions of coverage, liability and the value of claims

  • Negotiates, settles and/or resolves minor to moderately complex claims and losses

  • Sets adequate reserves to cover exposure

  • Prepares damage estimates using Mitchell estimating software

  • Negotiates claim settlement with insureds, claimants and attorneys

  • Negotiates agreed repair price with repair facility

  • Issues payments within check authority

  • Responds to questions from the insureds, claimants and agents

Education & Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalency

  • Five years of collision repair and/or physical damage experience

  • Multiple state insurance adjuster and appraiser licenses

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Technical knowledge of auto collision repair techniques and standards

  • Strong knowledge of state statute

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, conflict resolution and negotiation abilities

  • Strong knowledge of personal computers, electronic estimatics software and reference manuals relevant to this field of work

  • Travel required; a valid driver's license with an acceptable motor vehicle report per company standards required if traveling

The hiring salary range for this position will vary based on geographic location, falling within either the $54,000-$75,000 range or the $60,000-$82,000 range. A hiring range represents a subset of the full salary range. The actual salary will depend on several factors, including relevant education, skills, and experience of an applicant, geographic location, and business needs.
