Annual Salary: $37,500.00 - $51,500.00 (seven-year pay scale)
BASIC PURPOSE:
This job is responsible for supporting laboratory operations, performing maintenance functions and completing non-technical routine laboratory procedures under the direction of professional staff.
TYPICAL FUNCTIONS:
- Opens, receives, separates, numbers and arranges specimens for laboratory examination and trace results.
- Maintains simple laboratory records and inventory for supplies and reagents.
- Maintains laboratory equipment and supplies by cleaning and maintaining sample receiving and inventory records.
- Maintains a clean and sanitary work area in accordance with standard laboratory practice and procedures.
- Supplementary clerical duties.
Toxicology Laboratory Technician must perform routine repetitive tasks of a non-technical nature involving biological sample and physical evidence receiving general housekeeping and maintenance operations in a laboratory. Duties include handling in processing/out processing of human biological specimens and paperwork. Laboratory maintenance of cleaning work areas and equipment to include washing of glassware, sweeping or wet mopping floors, removing trash, some telephone answering, storing supplies and distributing a variety of items throughout the laboratory.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities include ability to understand and follow complex oral and written directions; to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; and to operate laboratory equipment. Ability to lift approximately 40 lbs. overhead Ability to work in a post mortem environment. Legible handwriting. Proficiency with computer database and word processing. Attention to detail and meticulous record keeping. Ability to perform tedious and repetitive tasks. Able to communicate effectively with professionals both verbally and in writing.
Must have knowledge of the maintenance of routine records and reports; and of elementary laboratory techniques and safety precautions. Ability is required to perform basic laboratory tasks; to keep specimens properly marked; to maintain adequate written laboratory records; and to utilize a computer.
Education and Experience requirements consist of one year of experience in laboratory work performing laboratory procedures; or an equivalent combination of education and experience, substituting one college-level laboratory science course for each six months of the required experience.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must maintain the physical and mental stamina to perform the work and willingness to accept the physical and mental discomforts inherent in the work. Must be at least 21 years of age and possess a valid Oklahoma Driver's License, social security card or work visa.
