Job Description

The Therapy Services Aide/Technician carries out clerical duties necessary for the function of the Department: cleans and maintains treatment areas and equipment; and provides patient care under the direct supervision of a licensed Physical, Occupation and Speech Therapist.

 

Essential Functions

- Inpatient: Checks for new orders.

- Outpatient: Prepares records for Health Information Management (HIM), Plan of Care assistance.

- Orders patient care/wound care supplies as needed.

- Cleans and maintains therapy pool as per the appropriate policies and procedures.

- Maintains and cleans hot and cold pack units including recording on daily logs.

- Maintains linen supply and patient care supplies.

- Thoroughly cleans all equipment.

- Transports equipment or patients as needed for inpatient care.

- Sets up treatment area for each patient.

- Assist patients as needed before, after and during treatment.

- Sets up and applies hot/cold packs.

- Assists with treatment modalities under the on-site supervision of licensed Physical, Occupation and Speech Therapists.

- Assists with training appropriate for inpatient care under the direct supervision of a licensed Physical, Occupational and Speech Therapist.

 

Other Duties

 

- Functions as back up to Front Office Registrar to schedule and check in patients, answer telephones and perform clerical duties.

- Participates in departmental and association wide informational meetings and in-services, including staff meetings, association wide forums, and seminars.

- Reviews department and association wide policies and procedures annually. Develops and maintains new policies and procedures as needed.

- Treats patients as guests by being courteous, making eye contact, smiling, introduction, and addresses people by name whenever possible.

- Answers the telephone with a “smile”. Identify yourself and ask how you can help the caller.

- Effectively communicates with patients, families, and each other.

- Keeps patients informed about their care and treatment plan.

- Positively represents Summit Healthcare Association in the workplace and in the community.

- Participates in departmental and association wide informational meetings and inservices, including staff meetings, association wide forums, and seminars.

- Reviews department and association wide policies and procedures annually. Develops and maintains new policies and procedures as needed.

Abilities

 

- Must be able to read, write, understand, and speak English.

- This position requires knowledge of all equipment, tools, machinery, and office equipment in the Therapy Services department, including: fax, printer, phone systems, computer, and commonly used hospital computer programs (including Hospital Information Systems, e-mail, and internet).

- This employee must be service oriented and have excellent computer skills, problem-solving skills, customer service skills, organizational skills, multitasking skills, professional interpersonal skills, time management skills, the ability to prioritize work, and telephone etiquette.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities

 

None.

 

Physical Demands

 

 

Exerts 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

 

Required Education and Experience

 

- High school diploma or equivalent.

- BLS/CPR certification (within 30 days of hire).

 

Preferred Education and Experience

 

- Prior experience as a therapy services aide/technician.

 

OSHA Exposure Category:

 

 

Involves no regular exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues, but may require unplanned tasks that involve exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues.

 

This is a safety sensitive position.
