Job Description
Provides polysomnographic testing to patients from newborn to 21 years of age consistent with accepted standards. Proactively supports efforts that ensure delivery of safe patient care and services and promote a safe environment at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta. Performs the duties of the Respiratory Therapist in the sleep center.
Experience
- 1 year of experience in polysomnography
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in pediatrics
Education
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Successful completion of a CoARC accredited Respiratory Therapy program
Certification Summary
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) or Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) with an active Georgia RCP license; or
- Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT), Sleep Disorders Specialist (SDS), or Registered Sleep Technologist (RST).
- Grandfathered clause: Continuous employment as a Polysomnographer or Respiratory Therapist at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta since 8/2007 in lieu of certification
- Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days of employment
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Must be able to successfully pass the Basic Windows Skill Assessment at 80% or higher rating within 30 days of employment
- Independent judgment and ability to work without supervision
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Enthusiasm and willingness to work with others
Job Responsibilities
- Independently performs diagnostic polysomnographic testing and scoring in accordance with accepted national standards to patients from newborn to 21 years of age, integrating emotional, psychosocial, educational, and growth and development needs of the patient and family, while supporting the respiratory therapy needs of the patient.
- Monitors comprehension, understanding, and compliance of the patient and family.
- Identifies and corrects issues with testing technical quality.
- May assist with orientation of new staff and participate in quality assurance and quality improvement initiatives.
