As a Principal Engineer - Workstations, you will play a key role in designing, developing, and maintaining workstation systems and infrastructure. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including product managers, software developers, and IT professionals, to ensure our workstation solutions meet the highest standards of performance, reliability, and usability. Leads multiple, highly complex projects on the deployment or upgrade of RGA technology utilizing internal and external resources across multiple disciplines. Functions as lead and mentor for technical team members on technology strategies and configuration. Requires depth or breadth of expertise in own specialized discipline or field.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES:

  • Architectural Design: Lead the design and development of complex Windows workstation systems and infrastructure.

  • Technical Leadership & Mentorship: Provide technical guidance, leadership, and mentorship to junior and mid-level engineers, fostering a culture of innovation and excellence within the team.

  • Problem-solving: Solve challenging technical problems and optimize complex Windows workstation systems.

  • Project Oversight: Manage and oversee all phases of technical projects related to Windows workstations, including research, development, and design.

  • System & Security Management: Build, maintain, troubleshoot, and optimize Windows operating systems, ensuring high levels of security and compliance.

  • Collaboration: Collaborate with product managers, designers, QA engineers, and other stakeholders to align technical standards and solutions with business needs.

  • Documentation: Document architectural decisions, design patterns, and best practices for Windows workstation environments.

  • Strategy & Vision: Drive technical excellence and contribute to the long-term technical vision and strategy for Windows workstations within the organization

  • Monitor technological advancements to ensure that solutions are continuously improved, supported, and aligned with industry and company standards as well as emerging business requirements.

  • Understand the interactions between systems, applications, and services within the environment, and evaluate the impact of changes or additions. Analyze systems and perform usability testing to ensure performance and reliability, enhance scalability, and meet security requirements.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION:

Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Arts/Sciences (BA/BS) or equivalent experience

Preferred:

  • Master's degree in Arts/Sciences (MA/MS)

EXPERIENCE:

Required:

  • 10+ years in IT architecture, production support, or related systems experience

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Required:

  • Technical Expertise: Deep knowledge of Windows operating systems (client and server versions), scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell, Python), virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware), networking protocols, and security practices.

  • Architectural Design: Ability to design and implement resilient, scalable, and maintainable Windows workstation architectures.

  • Leadership & Mentorship: Strong leadership qualities, including the ability to inspire, motivate, guide, and mentor engineers effectively.

  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with technical and non-technical stakeholders, including senior executives.

  • Problem-solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues related to Windows workstations.

  • Project Management: Ability to manage projects, set deadlines, allocate resources effectively, and ensure adherence to budgets and timelines.

  • Adaptability & Continuous Learning: Readiness to adapt to new technologies, embrace change, and engage in continuous learning to stay updated with industry trends and evolving technologies in the Windows ecosystem.

  • Advanced oral and written communication skills. Advanced ability to translate business needs and problems into systems' design and technical solutions.

  • Virtualization Technologies: VMware, Horizon VDI

  • Cloud Solutions: M365

  • Programming and Scripting Languages: Python, PowerShell,

  • Software Development Tools: Git, Jenkins

  • Monitoring and Management Tools: Datadog, ControlUp

  • VPN: Global Protect

  • 2-factor: Okta

  • Security hardening controls for workstations

  • Deployment and patching, technologies: Tanium, SCCM, JAMF

  • Enrollment technologies: Entra, Intune, Workspace ONE UEM

Preferred:

  • 12-15 years' relevant IT experience; Advanced experience with workload virtualization including application containerization, enterprise network management, information security concepts and platforms, and application performance monitoring.

Compensation Range:

$123,500.00 - $184,050.00 Annual

Base pay varies depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience and market location. In addition, RGA provides an annual bonus plan that includes all roles and some positions are eligible for participation in our long-term equity incentive plan. RGA also maintains a full range of health, retirement, and other employee benefits.
