Job Description

Work Flexibility: Hybrid or Onsite

Stryker is seeking to hire a Principal Portfolio Lead Engineer to support Stryker's Interventional Spine division. As a Principal Portfolio Lead Engineer, you will largely operate to enhance our research portfolio, engage in VOC (sales, marketing & customers), and support the design engineering team to launch products. You will develop and maintain expert-level awareness of the customers served by the portfolio, their procedures, and the technologies that serve their needs. Identify/assess potential product opportunities through application of multi-disciplinary engineering judgement and by planning and conducting (or directing through assigned Industrial Designers) Customer Centered Design (CCD) best practices and interactions.

This role is hybrid in Portage, MI with the expectation to be in office 3 days a week.

What you will do:

  • Champion, teach, and systematize advanced engineering principles to expand technical capabilities across the organization.

  • Leading voice of customer activities directly with clinicians in collaboration with marketing and sales.

  • Architect product and platform development spanning multiple technologies, product lines, and business areas.

  • Anticipate technology trends/threats and define strategies to convert them into opportunities.

  • Solve complex, cross-disciplinary technical problems requiring advanced analysis and innovation.

  • Contribute to intellectual property strategy through invention, patents, and technical review boards.

  • Serve as independent reviewer and mentor in the design review process, ensuring rigor and compliance.

  • Lead cross-functional strategy by aligning engineering with regulatory requirements, technology roadmaps, and industry standards.

What you Need:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelors in Electrical Engineering or related discipline

  • 8+ years of experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 2+ years leading VOC events with clinicians, applying CCD principles, and driving early-stage research

  • Experience developing and delivering digital platforms

  • Advanced expertise in DFM, Reliability Engineering, and Systems Design

  • Proven track record of commercially successful medical device designs, leveraging Solid Modeling and CAE tools for optimization

Travel Percentage: 20%
