SUMMARY:

The Process Engineering Manager is responsible for developing, improving, and implementing manufacturing processes and equipment to support the company’s production goals for wire and cable products. This role leads the Process Engineering Team and plays a critical part in enhancing product quality, improving operational efficiency, reducing waste and scrap, and driving safety initiatives. The ideal candidate will possess a high level of technical expertise, leadership experience, and a demonstrated ability to manage capital projects and continuous improvement efforts.

                                     

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Implement new equipment and manufacturing processes aligned with business growth and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Develop and manage capital expenditure plans; oversee equipment quotes, design reviews, justify investment, and ensure production hand-offs.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a highly performing Process Engineering Team
  • Lead assigned safety and ergonomic improvement initiatives within the manufacturing environment.
  • Drive and lead initiatives aimed at cost reduction, equipment utilization, productivity enhancement, and downtime reduction.
  • Responsible for developing manufacturing technology and for improving manufacturing processes as they apply to the production of wire and cable products.  Accomplish engineering tasks that require technical data gathering and analysis, root cause identification and resolution, process evaluation, cost analysis and reduction.
  • Initiates ideas, suggestions, and recommendations within the area of assigned projects.  Assists in controlling manufacturing processes by specifying the most efficient use of equipment, materials and manpower.  Diagnosis of manufacturing problems as they relate to machinery, materials and processes; identifies and implements appropriate corrective actions.
  • Audit manufacturing processes to ensure compliance with quality standards and internal procedures.
  • Technical Coaching and guidance to manufacturing leadership and operators in new processes and procedures, new manufacturing techniques, and general “troubleshooting” of manufacturing processes. 
  • Develop and maintain all product processing information (documentation) for each machine.
  • Partner with Quality Assurance to investigate and resolve product defects, customer complaints, and implement corrective actions.
  • Ensuring process related documentation (SOPs, manuals, posted instructions, computer information screens, etc.) is accurate and up to date and assist in training for all production processes.
  • Develop improved methods of manufacturing to reduce scrap, limit excessive usage of raw materials; and develop efficient and economical means of salvaging scrap.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with vendors to stay current on advancements in manufacturing technology for wire and cable production, such as new processes and equipment.
  • Establish operating equipment capability specifications, define process window, required tooling, and improve manufacturing techniques/processes.
  • Provide clear job expectations, performance feedback, and growth opportunities to team members.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous learning.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  • Four-year Engineering or Manufacturing Technology degree, coupled with relevant work experience.  Will consider equivalent work experiences in a wire and cable manufacturing environment in lieu of formal degree. Administrative training is preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years technical experience in a Manufacturing Engineering, Production or related activity in a wire and cable manufacturing environment, or a minimum of ten years in any other manufacturing industry.
  • Engineer leadership experience
  • Experience implementing and supporting safety and ergonomic solutions and programs
  • Project Management experience required. PM certification preferred
  • Experience implementing new equipment and manufacturing processes (selection, justification, validation and commissioning)
  • Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma experience/certification preferred

Working Conditions and/or Physical Requirements:

  • Near Vision - ability to see details at close range (within a few feet of observer)
  • Far Vision – ability to see details at a distance
  • Manual Dexterity – ability to quickly mover hands, hand together with arm, or two hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects.
  • Multi-limb coordination – ability to coordinate two or more limbs while sitting, standing, or lying down
  • Spend time using hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, or controls
  • Spend time standing, as well as sitting, bending, squatting, and reaching
  • Use hands and arms in handling, installing, positioning, and moving materials, and manipulating things
  • Wear common protective and safety equipment
  • Spend time making repetitive motions
  • Lifting of at least 50 pounds
  • Wear safety attire or protective gear daily.
  • Work indoors. These sites may not be temperature-controlled.
  • Ability to stand and move around production facility throughout entire shift if needed.
  • Ability to sit at a desk and conduct computer work for extended periods of time if needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Availability to travel as needed to other Aerospace & Defense facilities
  • Ability to effectively communicate with all organization levels, both orally and written.
  • Strong aptitude for combining technical and management disciplines. 
  • Organized and disciplined approach to problem solving.
  • Exceptional organizational and time management abilities.
  • Very strong interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving techniques.
  • Very strong skills in the areas of leadership, coaching, and team building
  • Strong computer skills – Microsoft Office programs (Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint), statistical data analysis software, and ability to learn new software such as company ERP system.
