Process Engineer Technician, Armtec Defense Technologies
Armtec Defense Technologies (Armtec) is an operating unit of the Transdigm Group (NYSE: TDG), an industry leader in aerospace and defense products and services. Armtec is comprised of three business units producing subcomponents for ordnance in Coachella, CA; decoy countermeasure flares in Camden, AR; and radar countermeasure chaff in Lillington, NC. Job Summary
The Process Engineering Technician will support the Chemical Process Engineer on the documentation, implementation, and systems commissioning in areas of batching operations, waste processing, and plant process improvement that enhance safety, consistency, and productivity. This role will be integral to maintain reliable, safe, and efficient process performance while assisting with data collection, trials, and implementation of new or improved processing methods. This position serves as a critical link between the Engineering and Production departments, ensuring process reliability, operational readiness, and execution of key development and improvement initiatives.
This role aids in driving improvements to the batching and formulation process by analyzing performance, identifying inefficiencies, and implementing changes that enhance worker safety and productivity as well as product consistency. This role owns recycling and waste-handling process productiveness, ensuring proper handling, reduced waste generation, and compliance with environmental requirements. This role applies practical technical skills, process knowledge, and structured problem-solving while collaborating with the Engineering, Production, Quality, and Maintenance departments.

Executes process enhancements, trials, and standardization efforts that reduce product variation, waste, environmental impacts, and downtime under engineering direction.

Uses observation and quantifiable measurements to detect inefficiencies and verify that improvements drive measurable results.
- Data-Driven Change
Collects and analyzes production and waste-stream data, validates improvements, and communicates outcomes clearly.
- Equipment & Process Reliability
Supports implementation of equipment and instrumentation improvements that boost performance and enable better control of material usage and recycling.
- Documentation & Standard Work Leadership
Updates operating procedures and instructions across process systems to sustain improvements and ensure compliance.
- Safety & Environmental Stewardship
Identifies and resolves risks related to chemical handling, material storage, process flows, batching operations, and recycling systems.
- Cross-Functional Execution
Works closely with Production, Quality, Maintenance, Safety, and Environmental teams to ensure improvements are fully adopted and sustained.
Qualifications
- Associate's degree (A.S.) in chemical technology, process technology, mechanical engineering technology, or related field required. 3-5 years of chemical or process plant operation experience in lieu of formal degree is accepted.
- 2-5 years of experience in chemical manufacturing, batch processing, or related industrial environment preferred.
- Experience supporting process optimization, quality improvement, maintenance reliability, or pilot plant projects is a plus.
- Working knowledge of chemical or batch processing equipment, such as tanks, pumps, valves, and instrumentation.
- Basic understanding of process control concepts, such as temperature, pressure, flow, and pH.
- Strong attention to detail, record keeping, and technical accuracy.
- Proficient with hand and power tools for setup, maintenance support, and small equipment adjustments.
- Ability to collect, record, and interpret production and waste data accurately.
- Familiarity with Excel, data trends, and SPC tools; experience with historical data analysis or SCADA systems is a plus.
- Comfortable in a hands-on plant environment with ability to perform equipment checks, calibrations, and basic troubleshooting.
- Continuous improvement mindset with interest in learning, problem-solving, and reducing waste and variation across production critical operations.
- Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

Work Hours & Travel
- 4X10 work week with occasional overtime on Fridays or weekends as necessary, to meet program objectives.
- Up to 20% mostly US travel is required, normally a few multi-day trips per quarter.
