Responsibilities:
The Product Design and AI Scientist will be responsible for integration of advanced computational tools, such as Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), with artificial intelligence (AI) to optimize product designs across a variety of products. The ideal candidate will also contribute to the development of innovative solutions for product development and interface with both internal and external stakeholders to drive product development and innovation in key strategic areas.
- Participate in product design optimization using computational tools like FEA and CFD, integrating AI to accelerate and enhance design processes.
- Interface with AI tools to enhance computational modeling capabilities for product design, ensuring integration of data-driven techniques for material and structural analysis.
- Ensure adherence to all relevant quality standards, regulatory requirements, and safety protocols throughout the design and development process
- Analyze and optimize Freudenberg components and products
- Perform finite element analysis (FEA) and topology optimization using tools such as Abaqus or ANSYS, and evaluate results in the context of material and manufacturing constraints
- Guide materials selection and substitution efforts for component redesign, using proprietary databases and engineering tradeoffs
- Support the integration of AI/ML models with FEA and topology optimization workflows
- Evaluate and refine designs for manufacturability, considering traditional processes
- Provide knowledge on elastomers and polymers and their processing conditions, and manufacturing methods is preferred.
- Document workflows, tools, and deliverables to support handoff and commercial readiness
- Participate in internal stakeholder meetings with all Business Groups, presenting technical findings clearly and effectively
Qualifications:
- MS or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, or related field
- Strong experience (2+ years) in at least two of the following areas:
- Finite Element Analysis (e.g., Abaqus, ANSYS)
- Topology optimization methods and AI tools (e.g. AI Agents)
- Applied materials engineering or material selection for manufacturable component design
- Familiarity with CAE procedures and target requirements for vehicle components
- Ability to evaluate manufacturability and material-performance tradeoffs
- Proficiency in Python and familiarity with APIs for engineering software integration
- Experience in AI automation coding, simulation tools, and CAE tools
- Eagerness to participate in a global team and present to stakeholders
