Job Description
Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and innovative hardware engineer to join our product team. This role will focus on the design, evaluation, and optimization of hardware components that enable our advanced security solutions, including camera systems, audio/visual deterrents, sensors, logic controllers, and integration modules. You will work closely with software engineers, product managers, and field operations teams to ensure the hardware ecosystem is robust, reliable, and seamlessly integrated with the Interface monitoring platform.
Key Responsibilities
Hardware Design & Development
Design, evaluate, and optimize hardware configurations for security system deployments, including cameras, networking equipment, audio systems, lighting/strobe devices, and control panels.
Collaborate with the product team to define hardware requirements that support platform features and use cases.
Develop hardware specifications, wiring diagrams, and integration schematics.
Testing & Validation
Conduct lab and field testing to validate performance, environmental resilience, and interoperability.
Work with QA to develop and execute hardware test plans.
Troubleshoot and resolve hardware performance issues during development, pilot programs, and production rollouts.
Integration & Compatibility
Ensure compatibility between hardware and third-party security systems, network devices, and power solutions.
Collaborate with software engineers to integrate firmware, drivers, and embedded system components.
Implement and document standards for hardware installation, calibration, and maintenance.
Quality, Compliance & Supply
Ensure hardware solutions meet regulatory, environmental, and industry standards (UL, FCC, CE, NDAA, etc.).
Partner with procurement to source components, evaluate suppliers, and manage BOMs (Bill of Materials).
Provide technical support to operations teams during installations and escalated troubleshooting.
Qualifications
Required:
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
3+ years of experience in hardware engineering, preferably in security systems, IoT, or networked devices.
Experience with embedded systems, sensors, and physical security devices.
Knowledge of networking hardware, PoE devices, and structured cabling standards.
Proficiency with CAD tools for schematic and layout design.
Strong troubleshooting skills in both lab and field environments.
Preferred:
Experience integrating cameras, audio devices, and lighting systems into unified platforms.
Familiarity with low-voltage power systems and backup power solutions.
Experience with environmental and durability testing for outdoor-rated devices.
Knowledge of manufacturing processes and design-for-manufacturability (DFM) principles.
Soft Skills
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Ability to collaborate across engineering, operations, and vendor teams.
Excellent documentation and communication skills.
Comfortable working in both fast-paced R&D cycles and structured production rollouts.
Location & Work Environment
In office role in our St. Louis location.
Some travel required for testing, deployment, and supplier visits.
