Job Description:

Program Coordinator for Training and Development

Reporting to the Assistant Director for Training & Development, the Program Coordinator for Training and Development is responsible for assisting with planning and implementing training and programs to enhance the success of staff members at all levels within Residential Life. Additionally, the Program Coordinator manages assessment initiatives related to trainings and learning outcomes to produce marginal gains each year.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES FOR THIS POSITION INCLUDE:

  • Develop, implement, and execute training schedules and logistics for undergraduate student staff and Graduate Assistants
  • Work collaboratively with inter-departmental peers to design and implement training for other student staff positions
  • Create and maintain digital learning solutions for ongoing training and reference
  • Manage the collection and tracking of departmental certification requirements
  • Contribute to departmental and divisional work through attendance and engagement in staff meetings, training and events

Leveraging Digital Learning Tools to Affect Competency Development

Supplementing traditional, lecture-style training sessions with curated digital solutions is the future of on-the-job training. The Program Coordinator will assist in creating online modules and resources that support learning throughout the academic year to build in-hall staff capacity and improve quality of service for residents

Develop a Professional Development Program for Graduate & Professional Staff

Working with entry level staff members to prepare for the next level of their careers is a critical responsibility to the larger field of Student Affairs and LSU. The Program Coordinator will work collaboratively with the Assistant Director to build and create a development program that involves ongoing training throughout the year, management of resources related to professional development, and determine training programs to increase success within their roles.

Building Upon Campus Relationships and Partnerships

The varying roles that work within the Department of Residential Education span a breadth of campus resources through referrals and relationships. The Program Coordinator has an opportunity to solidify these partnerships to allow for a transformational training experience that involves the campus support resources in educating our staff. By intentionally building upon these partnerships, the Program Coordinator will be able to effectively convey important information to better serve our residents and staff members' referrals.

ABOUT THE DIVISION OF STUDENT AFFAIRS PRIORITIES:

DEPARTMENT OF RESIDENTIAL LIFE MISSSION STATEMENT

Provide dynamic student-focused learning communities that support development and academic success in clean, safe, and sustainable facilities that meet the needs of the campus community.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Staff Training & Development (50%): Attend weekly departmental staff meetings; Develop, implement, and execute training schedules with AD-TD for undergraduate student staff and Graduate Assistants positions, including ongoing training initiatives; coordinate reservations and management of student staff training rooms, meals, and schedules; collaborate and consult with cross-campus subject matter experts to determine effective learning solutions; offer development; assist with preparation of annual training budget and maintaining records and expense reports; develop collaborative partnerships with departmental leadership and campus partners; aide the AD-TD in executing professional staff training initiatives; chair the Student Staff Training Committee

Learning Management Systems (20%): Create and maintain departmental Moodle for RA staff members' ongoing training and references; manage departmental certification requirements including tracking and working with the ADSS on resulting performance management; design and create learning modules; authenticate learning assessments; digitize reference materials for increased ease of use; assist the Coordinator for Student Staffing and Residential Life Communications team in developing and implementing training from desk assistant and summer conferences staffs respectively

Assessment & Evaluation (20%): Develop and continuously manage a needs assessment by position for training scaffolding; create, compile, and present training evaluations; organize and execute focus groups to enhance electronic evaluations; lead real-time feedback in staff meetings following training and development initiatives; prepare end of the semester reports on behalf of the department including December and/or January development days

Quality Control (5%): Ensures every aspect of training and development outputs including administrative tasks, implementation, and overall design exudes a high degree of quality. Embraces and executes the marginal gains approach and seeks to increase level of all services, events, programs, and experiences in department for continuous improvement every academic year

Other Duties as Assigned (5%): Coordinates special projects and other duties as assigned by the Assistant Director for Training & Development or Associate Director for Residential Operations. This includes but is not limited to: efforts that support broad division/institution efforts including at least 40 hours per year spent helping divisional initiatives such as Move-In Day, Welcome Week, Family Weekend, Career Expo, Disability Services Finals Testing, other special projects etc.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's Degree

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's Degree in College Student Personnel, Higher Education Administration or a related field
  • 1 or more years of experience working within a higher education setting
  • Experience with training and curriculum development
  • Experience with utilizing learning management systems for education
