Project Manager

Orbital Engineering, Inc. is currently seeking a Project Manager to provide on-site support to a large industrial client in Northwest Indiana. The position requires direct heavy industrial experience, preferably in a metals manufacturing environment, and well-rounded expertise in project development and construction management. Experience in other heavy industrial engineering settings may also be considered. Orbital is evaluating candidates based upon their project management experience, technical knowledge, field experience, and practical engineering skill sets.

Essential duties and responsibilities

  • Responsible for facilitating the execution of design, procurement, and construction activities for assigned projects, through a combination of self-execution and as leader of project team.
  • Function as Project Manager on specific projects as required. Schedule, organize and direct other engineers, designers and contractors in the completion of activities.
  • Prepare, or supervise the preparation of, engineering, procurement, and construction RFPs, including development of scopes of work, project schedules and cost estimates.
  • Work with engineering teams to ensure the preparation, review and/or check of engineering calculations, designs, drawings and other project documents related to all disciplines on projects as required.
  • Identify and communicate the client technical standards/specifications to be used on specific projects, as well as ensuring the creation of a centralized design basis and historical references for use on the projects.
  • Complete all tasks in accordance with design and project execution procedures and guidelines as set forth in corporate and client Quality Management Systems, as appropriate. As PM, direct and provide technical guidance to junior staff within the department and on the team.
  • Provide enhanced customer support as a technical liaison and support Orbital's regional business development initiatives as a technical resource.

Minimum Requirements

A minimum of 10 years of engineering and/or PM experience in heavy industrial environments is required. Successful experience in leadership roles managing engineering and construction teams in a manufacturing environment is preferred. Superior communication and interpersonal skills are essential. Project management experience including understanding and use of project management and project control principles and tools is required. Candidates should have a thorough understanding and aptitude in the use of current computer software including general Office products, design and business enterprise software.

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Project Management, Engineering, or Technology
  • P.E License, Project Management Training, and/or PMP Certification a plus.
